Patent number: 9369071Abstract: A discontinuous pulse width modulation technique is used in a controller to control an inverter that converts DC battery power to AC power to operate an electric motor, e.g., in a hybrid electric vehicle. The discontinuous pulse width modulation technique uses only one of the two zero state voltage vectors in its calculations whereas traditional pulse width modulation uses both zero state voltage vectors. The use of a single zero state voltage vector can result in one of a group of switches in the inverter remaining in a constant state during a complete duty cycle while still providing the commanded voltage vector to the electrical motor. As a result losses due to switching can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2014Date of Patent: June 14, 2016Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Chang-Jiang Wang, Michael W. Publication number: 20160159333Abstract: A method for controlling a brake pressure booster with hydraulic brake boosting wherein the activation of an additional pressure source takes place upon exceeding a specified brake cylinder pressure threshold value. The threshold value lying, between 50% and 100%, preferably between 70% and 80%, of a pressure limit value, from which the operating travel/brake pressure curve without additional brake pressure assistance has a knee point. Further upon exceeding a specified piston rod activation travel limit value, which lies at 20% to 100% of the available travel, preferably at 40% to 60% of the available travel. Furthermore, the speed of the vehicle, its lateral deceleration and its longitudinal deceleration can be used as criteria. Deactivation takes place on falling below a specified piston rod deactivation travel limit value. Based on selection of activation/deactivation criteria additional brake pressure boosting can be operationally during braking maneuvers.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2014Publication date: June 9, 2016Applicants: FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLC, ROBERT BOSCH, GMBHInventors: Thomas Svensson, Thomas Eichhorn

Patent number: 9359963Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for depressurizing a fuel pressure regulator during engine cold start and varying fuel injection pressure after cold start in a gaseous-fueled vehicle. A mechanical pressure regulator may be modified to include valves which may be controlled to depressurize a reference chamber of the regulator when gaseous fuel injection is inactive (e.g., before and during cold start), and to regulate the pressure of gaseous fuel to varying pressures based on electronic pressure feedback and engine operating conditions when gaseous fuel injection is active. In one example, the pressure in the reference chamber of a pressure regulator may be varied by controlling valves to flow gaseous fuel into the reference chamber, and then controlling the valves to exhaust the gaseous fuel from the reference chamber, for example to a fuel vapor storage canister.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2012Date of Patent: June 7, 2016Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventor: Ross Dykstra Pursifull
