  • Publication number: 20140283764
Abstract: A system and methods for inferring a local engine temperature based on various engine conditions input to a dynamic model are disclosed. In the example system provided, an inferential temperature sensor uses a trainable model to estimate a local metal temperature in an exhaust valve bridge of a cylinder head which thereby allows closed loop control of a coolant flow device independent from engine speed, engine state, coolant flow state or system temperature. In response to estimated local metal temperatures, the methods described further allow thermal management of the engine system to be optimized.

  • Publication number: 20140287872
Abstract: A control system and method for controlling a multiple gear ratio automatic transmission in a powertrain for an automatic transmission having pressure activated friction torque elements to effect gear ratio upshifts. The friction torque elements are synchronously engaged and released during a torque phase of an upshift event as torque from a torque source is increased while allowing the off-going friction elements to slip, followed by an inertia phase during which torque from a torque source is modulated. A perceptible transmission output torque reduction during an upshift is avoided. Measured torque values are used during a torque phase of the upshift to correct an estimated oncoming friction element target torque so that transient torque disturbances at an oncoming clutch are avoided and torque transients at the output shaft are reduced.

  • Publication number: 20140288729
Abstract: A movement prevention system preventing undesired travel of a vehicle. A transmission gear sensor senses an out of park position of a vehicle transmission. An occupant detection system senses a presence of a driver in a driver seat of a vehicle in response to the vehicle transmission being out of the park position. A processor determines whether movement of the vehicle is likely to occur in response to a determination of the non-presence of the driver. A vehicle movement prevention device prevents movement of the vehicle in response to the processor determining whether movement of the vehicle is likely to occur.
