Abstract: A porous carbon material includes a hierarchical porous structure including a primary microporous structure and at least one of a secondary mesoporous structure and a secondary macroporous structure. The porous carbon material is formed by combining a halogenated-hydrocarbon, an aprotic hydrocarbon solvent, and a reductant to initiate a reaction that forms intermediate particles having a microporous framework; and subjecting the intermediate particles to a heat treatment at a heat treatment temperature ranging from about 300° C. to less than 1,500° C. for a heat treatment time period ranging from about 20 minutes to about 10 hours to thereby form the porous carbon material. The aprotic hydrocarbon solvent is selected from the group consisting of toluene, hexane, cyclohexane, and combinations thereof.

Abstract: A system according to the principles of the present disclosure includes a target area module and a throttle actuator module. The target area module determines a target opening area of a throttle valve of an engine based on a first target pressure within an intake manifold of the engine when the engine is starting. The throttle actuator module actuates the throttle valve based on the target opening area.
Abstract: A coolant control system of a vehicle includes an opening module configured to determine a coolant valve (CV) opening, a flow control valve (FCV) opening, and a block valve (BV) opening based on at least one of a block temperature difference, a head temperature difference, and a coolant outlet temperature difference. A CV control module is configured to selectively actuate a CV based on the CV opening. The CV regulates coolant flow from the FCV to a radiator and a coolant channel bypassing the radiator. A BV control module is configured to selectively actuate a BV based on the BV opening. The BV regulates coolant flow from the engine block to the FCV. A FCV control module is configured to selectively actuate a FCV based on the FCV opening. The FCV regulates coolant flow from the cylinder head and the BV to the CV.

Abstract: A system according to the principles of the present disclosure includes a current object position module, an expected position module, and an object position comparison module. The current object position module can determine a first position of an object with respect to a position of a vehicle based upon sensor data generated by a first object detection sensor within the vehicle and determines a second position of the object with respect to the position of the vehicle based upon sensor data generated by a second object detection sensor. The expected object position module can determine an expected position of the object with respect to the position of the vehicle based upon the first position of the object. The object position comparison module can determine whether at least one object detection sensor is improperly installed within the vehicle based upon comparing the second position of the object with the expected position.

Abstract: A method of operating a fuel injector of an internal combustion engine includes setting a value of a target fuel quantity to be injected by the fuel injector, initializing a value of a fuel quantity requested from the fuel injector to the value of the target fuel quantity, and correcting the value of the requested fuel quantity. A first learning cycle is performed to correct the value of the requested fuel quantity in which a difference between the target fuel quantity and the injected fuel quantity is calculated and added to the requested fuel quantity to provide a corrected value. The corrected value of the requested fuel quantity is used to determine a reference value of an energizing time that causes the fuel injector to inject a fuel quantity corresponding to the target fuel quantity. The fuel injector is operated based on the determined reference value of the energizing time.

Abstract: Selective catalytic reduction device (SCR) assessment methods include, while communicating exhaust to the SCR, determining a first temperature differential (dT) between a modeled exotherm phase temperature and a measured SCR exotherm outlet exhaust temperature, comparing the first dT to a first threshold, and determining that the SCR performance is suitable if the first dT is below the first threshold, or, if the first dT is above the first threshold, communicating exhaust gas to the SCR during a water endotherm phase, determining a second dT between a modeled endotherm phase temperature and a measured SCR endotherm phase outlet exhaust temperature, comparing the second dT to a second threshold, and determining that the SCR performance is suitable if the second dT is above the second threshold, or determining that the SCR performance is unsuitable if the second dT is below the second threshold. Performance can be SCR reductant storage capacity.

Abstract: A seat trim cover management system for seat cushion length adjustment includes a seat cushion base having stationary portion and an adjustable portion wherein the stationary portion and the adjustable portion include a horizontal top surface and a vertical front surface. An adjustment mechanism is in mechanical communication with the stationary portion and the adjustable portion and is configured to manipulate the adjustable portion. A cover material includes a first end attached to the horizontal top surface of the stationary portion or the adjustable portion, and at least one seat cover management system is attached to a second end of the cover material and is configured to maintain tension between the first end and second end of the cover material while the cover material shrouds the gap created between the stationary portion and the adjustable portion when at the extended position.
Abstract: Technical solutions are described for an emissions control system for a motor vehicle including an internal combustion engine. An example computer-implemented method for controlling an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, includes detecting a high hydrocarbon region in the operation of the internal combustion engine. The method further includes responsively, measuring an upstream temperature of an oxidation device of the exhaust system. Further yet, the method includes in response to the upstream temperature being equal to or above a predetermined threshold, delaying an O2 diagnosis of the exhaust system for a signal rationality delay time.
