  • Publication number: 20130124917
Abstract: A method and system for recovering from stack-overflow or stack-underflow faults without restarting software or hardware. At every task switch operation in an application program, a portion of the memory stack is copied to a backup location, so that portion of the stack can be restored if it is subsequently corrupted by a stack-overflow or stack-underflow fault during the execution of the next task. State variable data is similarly copied to a backup location, so that it can be used to restore or estimate the output of the next task if that task experiences a fault. Techniques are disclosed for selecting which state variable data and which portion of the memory stack to copy to backup, and for detecting a stack-overflow or stack-underflow fault and restoring state variable and memory data in the event of such a fault.

  • Publication number: 20130118850
Abstract: A method of controlling shifts in a multi-speed transmission includes beginning an initial shift, which changes the transmission from a starting gear to an initial target gear, and executing an adjusted shift, which changes the transmission to an adjusted target gear having higher speed ratio than the initial target gear, when transition conditions are satisfied. The transition conditions include a threshold increase in torque request, which is sufficient to require the transmission to be placed into the adjusted target gear. The transition conditions also include a common controlling clutch, which is an off-going clutch to place the transmission in the adjusted target gear. Executing the adjusted shift does not include placing the transmission in a neutral mode. Furthermore, executing the adjusted shift does not include completing the initial shift.

  • Publication number: 20130118285
Abstract: A shift assembly for a manual transmission includes a decoupled inertial mass. The decoupled mass is active only to assist and complete the shift (longitudinal shift lever movement) and is inactive during selection (lateral shift lever motion). A shift tower includes a stub shaft which is translated axially by a first shift cable through a first linkage. This motion corresponds to lateral motion of the shift lever (selection). A radial arm is rotated by a second shift cable through a second linkage. This motion corresponds to longitudinal motion (gear engagement) of the shift lever. A mass of dense material is mounted on the arm which is received about the stub shaft and connected thereto by a member in a slot that rotationally couples the arm and mass to the stub shaft but allows unrestricted (uncoupled) axial motion between the arm (and mass) and the stub shaft.

Abstract: Lithium-ion battery electrode constructions use an array of nanowires (or of other long thin shapes) of active electrode material anchored at one end to a surface of a metal current collector sheet in an electrode assembly or construction. This form of active electrode material permits good contact with a liquid lithium-ion containing electrolyte that infiltrates the closely-spaced thin shapes. Stresses arising from volume changes in the long shapes with lithiation and de-lithiation of the active material is mitigated by strategic placement of shape memory apply forms between attachment surfaces of the active electrode material and other members of the electrode assembly.
