Abstract: A system for key absence management in a vehicle configured to be started by an electronic key fob includes a key absence management controller that implements a method configured to authorize starting of the vehicle by monitoring presence and absence of the electronic key fob in the vehicle. If the controller finds the electronic key fob to be present in the vehicle, then the controller authorizes starting of the vehicle. If the controller finds the electronic key fob to be absent from the vehicle, then the controller authorizes starting of the vehicle based on detection of a keyless authority indicator. A vehicle configured to be started by an electronic key fob includes the system with the controller that implements the method.

Abstract: A method that includes obtaining reflective radar signals regarding a scene monitored by a radar sensor system having an antenna array that is characterized by effecting a reflection-ghost offset in one or more domains, determining a reflective-intensity (RI) spectrum in three domains based on the reflective radar signals, producing a filtered RI spectrum by applying a trained convolutional neural network (CNN) to the RI spectrum by, at least in part, filtering the RI spectrum using one or more CNN kernels that incorporate the reflection-ghost offset; and detecting objects in the monitored scene based, at least in part, on the filtered RI spectrum.
Abstract: A method of detecting a malicious wireless vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication includes retrieving perception data from a perception system on an ego vehicle, determining information about nearby objects from the perception data, receiving a first Basic Safety Message (BSM) from a first V2X source and determining if a vehicle location indicated in the first BSM corresponds to a location visible to the ego vehicle. In the event that the vehicle location indicated in the first BSM does not correspond to a location visible to the ego vehicle, the method further includes receiving a second V2X communication from a second V2X source and determining if the second V2X communication indicates a vehicle at the vehicle location indicated in the first BSM. In the event that the second V2X communication does not indicate a vehicle at the vehicle location indicated in the first BSM, the first BSM data is flagged as malicious.
Abstract: An automobile vehicle crankshaft including a crankshaft casting of a nodular iron. The crankshaft casting includes multiple main journals coaxially aligned on a common crankshaft casting axis. Multiple crankpin journals are fixedly connected to the main journals by individual webs. Multiple lightening holes have individual ones of the multiple lightening holes integrally formed within individual ones of the crankpin journals during casting. A bubble space is located proximate to a mid-portion of selected ones of the multiple lightening holes of the crankpin journals. The bubble space locally increases a passage size of the selected ones of the multiple lightening holes and reduces a mass of the individual ones of the crankpin journals.

Abstract: A control system for a vehicle comprises a controller comprising a processor and a non-transitory computer-readable medium including instructions. The system comprises first, second, and third inputs configured to be manipulated by an operator. The system comprises first, second, and third displays adjacent the first, second, and third inputs, respectively. The first, second and third displays are configured to show first, second, and third indicia, respectively. Manipulation of the first input by the operator transmits a selection input signal to the controller. The controller receives the selection input signal. The processor compares the selection input signal to the instructions in the non-transitory computer-readable medium, transmits a selection output signal to the second and third displays, removes the second and third indicia from the second and third displays, and shows a first sub-selection indicium on the second display and a second sub-selection indicium on the third display.
