Publication number: 20080229802Abstract: A method of forming a metal sheet blank (7) by deep-drawing the sheet blank (7) so as to produce a deep-drawn pre-form (7) having a base portion (8) and a skirt portion (9) extending at substantially right angles therefrom. The height of the skirt portion (9) varies around the perimeter of the pre-form (7) so as to provide a skirt (9) having a curved edge course (10), and subsequently processing said curved edge (10) to obtain a curled or bent edge (10) having a curved course. The invention also relates to a tool (1,6) and an apparatus for forming a sheet blank and to a lid or container (7).Type: ApplicationFiled: January 28, 2005Publication date: September 25, 2008Applicant: GLUD & MARSTRAND A/SInventor: Jan Simris

Patent number: 7350642Abstract: A packaging comprising a first and second outer part of metallic material, an inner part of non-metallic material made in one piece and comprising a first and second opposed side between which an element can be stored and a hinging part forming at least one hinge connecting said sides and allowing the sides to be rotated relative to each other within an angle so as to open the packaging and adapting the packaging and adapting the packaging for packing in an automated packing machine. At least a part of a perimeter of the first and second outer part is adapted to retain the inner part in order to attach said outer parts to said respective sides of said inner part for covering substantial part of the outer surfaces of the sides.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2005Date of Patent: April 1, 2008Assignee: Glud & Marstrand A/SInventors: Jan Bjerregaard, Mazyar Abolfazlian, Esad Zubcevic, Poul Mikkelsen, Christian Ørum, Torsten Brix, Niels Toft Jorgensen

Publication number: 20040166336Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for replicating a surface relief. In particular, the present invention relates to a method for replicating a surface relief in a non-metallic layer being held by a metal substrate. Furthermore, the present invention relates to an article for holding a surface relief. The article will typically form an integral part of a metal container, such as a food container.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 13, 2004Publication date: August 26, 2004Applicant: Glud & Marstrand A/SInventors: Lars Lindvold, Jan Stensborg

Patent number: 6769164Abstract: A method and an apparatus for making cans from three pieces of a sheet metal, namely a bottom part, a body part and a closure, the method and apparatus enabling cost efficient production of cans in small batch sizes. The apparatus has means for forming a tubular can body from a blank of sheet material without internally supporting the tubular form. The apparatus further has means for subsequently forming the tubular can body into a cross sectional shape without the use of a dedicated press tool, means for beading, curling and flanging the can body and means for attaching the bottom part and the closure to the can body.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2002Date of Patent: August 3, 2004Assignee: Glud & Marstrand A/SInventor: Esad Zubcevic

Patent number: 6126029Abstract: A can with a cover comprises a pull ring (5) and a score line (7) adjacent the closing flange (8) of the cover, and a bottom closing flange (9). The nose (5b) of the pull ring (5) is spaced such a distance (x) from the weakening line (7) that two cans (1', 1) can be stacked atop one another without any risks of damaging the pull ring. When the handle part (5a) is lifted, the pull ring is displaced the distance (x) outwards towards the cover flange (8) before it perforates the cover through the score line (7). The resulting can is less vulnerable compared to known cans at the score line during handling and can thus withstand heavy vertical loads. Moreover more room is provided for a closing chuck at the seaming of the cover.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1999Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Glud & Marstrand A/SInventor: Bo Storgaard

Patent number: 5879120Abstract: A method of seaming a circular cover panel (1) provided with a turnable pull ring (2) onto the body of a can. The cover panel comprises a circumferential score line (5) as close as possible to the rim portion (6) of said panel. The pull ring (2) on the cover panel used is mounted in a non-radial position on said cover panel (1) with the result that a clearance (a) is provided between the rim portion (6) of the cover panel and the nose (3) of the pull ring, and a clearance (b) is provided between the rim portion (6) of the cover panel and the handle part (2) of the pull ring. As a result, a closing chuck can be inserted in these clearances (a, b) during the seaming of the cover panel. In this manner the seaming operation is very simple and very rational because it is not necessary to use a particular closing chuck, and because the cover panel need not be angularly positioned on the seaming machine before the closing chuck and the cover panel are moved towards each other.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1997Date of Patent: March 9, 1999Assignee: Glud & Marstrand A/SInventor: Hans J.o slashed.rgen Graa Jakobsen
