  • Patent number: 5230537
Abstract: A pipe coupling comprising a sealing gasket to fit over adjacent ends of pipes to be connected end-to-end and a housing which clamps around the gasket, has the housing in the form of a cast metal or alloy band which substantially encircles the gasket and has at its circumferential ends opposed lugs between which a wedge portion of the gasket extends and which are connected by at least one clamping bolt engaged with retaining means, whereby the lugs can be urged towards one another to contract the band onto the gasket. The lugs grip the wedge portion as the band is contracted and prevent the body of the gasket from bulging outwardly between the lugs. Preferably the band is made of a ductile metal or alloy, e.g. ductile iron, and is slightly oval in its free state so that it assumes a substantially true circular form when fully contracted onto the gasket.

  • Patent number: 5064585
Abstract: Rigid mouldings, e.g. kitchen sinks, having a wall thickness generally not exceeding approximately 0.4in (10 mm) are produced by a process in which pre-heated and de-gassed curable resin composition, which sets within 60 minutes, is supplied under at least 4 psi (280 g/cm.sup.2) pressure to fill a hotter mould and thereafter until the composition in the mould has set so as to compensate for shrinkage. The composition temperature is controlled in the mould to maintain a substantially linear temperature gradient in the composition increasing from its entry into the mould for the composition to set progressively through the mould back to the entry. Preferably the composition includes an epoxide resin, an anhydride hardener and a mineral filler, and the temperature gradient is approximately 10.degree. C. Typically using a solid system composition maximum pre-heated mould temperature is 170.degree. C., the composition is supplied at 90.degree.-120.degree. C. at 15 psi (1050 g/cm.sup.

  • Patent number: 4659870
Abstract: To provide an electrically conductive path between metal pipes, e.g. soil or drain pipes, connected at butting ends by means of an annular gasket of electrically insulating material which fits around and spans the butting ends and is secured in sealing engagement with the butting ends by clamp, a bridge element of electrically conductive material retained to the gasket extends between and engages with the pipes. The bridge element is conveniently an attachment to the gasket having portions disposed at internal and external circumferential surfaces of the gasket. Teeth or like formations on the bridge element dig into the surfaces of the pipes to enhance the engagement. Electrically conductive engagement may also be made with the clamp at a portion of the bridge element at the exterior of the gasket.
