    Abstract: A sensor assembly for a transmission includes a meshing encoder gear and an unbiased sensor. The gear teeth of the encoder gear have target surfaces that generate a magnetic field. The sensor targets the magnetized target surfaces to detect the magnetic field or the change in the magnetic field and sends a signal to a controller that is converted to a speed measurement of the encoder gear.
