Patent number: 10324636Abstract: A fail-operational control system includes a migrating controller having a non-volatile memory, a RAM, and a CPU. The migrating controller includes software code stored in the non-volatile memory of the migrating controller. The software code stored in the non-volatile memory of the migrating controller executed by the CPU of the migrating controller is dedicated to a respective system. The respective system is not under the control of a primary controller from another system. In response to an enablement of a system operation of the primary controller of another system that requires a backup controller during execution of the system operation, fail-operational software code stored in the non-volatile memory of the primary controller of the other system is transferred to the RAM of the migrating controller. The migrating controller temporarily functions as a backup controller during the execution of the system operation in the primary controller of the other system.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2016Date of Patent: June 18, 2019Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLC.Inventor: Soheil Samii

Patent number: 10323696Abstract: Disclosed are latching mechanisms for engine disconnect devices, methods for making and for using such latching mechanisms, and motor vehicles with a disconnect device for coupling/decoupling an engine with a torque converter (TC). A disconnect clutch for selectively connecting an engine with a TC includes a pocket plate that movably mounts to the TC. The pocket plate includes pockets movably seating therein struts that engage notches in a notch plate to lock the pocket plate to the notch plate. A selector plate moves between deactivated and activated positions such that the struts shift into and out of engagement with the notch plate notches, respectively. An activation device is selectively actuable to move the selector plate between activated and deactivated positions. A latching mechanism automatically transitions to a latched state responsive to the selector plate being activated. When latched, this latching mechanism retains the selector plate in the activated position.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2017Date of Patent: June 18, 2019Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLC.Inventors: Farzad Samie, Derek F. Patent number: 10315710Abstract: Disclosed are self-calibrating load sensor systems for active aerodynamics devices, methods for making or using such load sensor systems, and motor vehicles equipped with a self-calibrating load sensor system to govern operation of the vehicle's active aero device(s). An active aero sensing system includes a load sensor that mounts to the vehicle body, and detects downforces on the vehicle. A memory device stores mapped vehicle downforce data calibrated to the motor vehicle. A vehicle controller receives downforce signals generated by the load sensor, and calculates an average downforce value from these signals. The controller determines if the average downforce differs from a calibrated downforce value retrieved from the memory device. If so, the controller responsively applies an offset value to subsequent downforce signals received from the load sensor, and dynamically controls operation of the active aero device based, at least in part, on these signals modified by the offset value.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2017Date of Patent: June 11, 2019Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLC.Inventors: Jason D.
