  • Patent number: 7891171
Abstract: A method for reducing nitrogen oxides including NO and NO2 in an exhaust stream also comprising oxygen, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons at a temperature above about 150° C., the method including in embodiments oxidizing NO in the exhaust stream to NO2; reforming raw diesel fuel to produce OHC's from the fuel; adding diesel fuel hydrocarbons and their oxygenates to the exhaust stream for the reduction of nitrogen oxides; and contacting the exhaust stream with a reduction hybrid catalyst comprising BaY—Ag/Al2O3 to reduce the nitrogen oxides to N2. The method reduces NOx initially through the (HC+OHC)/SCR process producing N2, while also producing NH3 as a byproduct over Ag/Al2O3. The NH3 subsequently reduces NOx over the BaY—Ag/Al2O3 hybrid catalyst through the NH3/SCR process, producing more N2 and thereby enhancing the NOx reduction efficiency of the hybrid catalyst system.

  • Patent number: 7891042
Abstract: An automatic debris removal apparatus for a wiper system that removes soluble and insoluble debris trapped between the wiper blade and the glass surface by lifting the wiper blade off the glass surface and then causing the wiper blade to drop onto the glass surface as a shake under urge of the biasing spring of the wiper arm, so as to thereby provide a shaking action which frees any trapped debris. An actuator selectively interacts with the pivotal portion of the wiper arm to effect shaking of the wiper arm to thereby free the wiper blade of the debris.

  • Patent number: 7887968
Abstract: A flow control valve for a fuel cell that has particular application for controlling the flow of cathode air through a cathode flow channel of the fuel cell. The valve includes an element that controls the flow through the flow channel in response to changes in the voltage potential of the fuel cell. The valve includes a shape memory alloy wire and a flow control element secured to both ends of the shape memory alloy wire. The ends of the wire are also coupled to the anode and cathode of the fuel cell. When no current is flowing through the wire, the flow control element holds the wire in a pre-strained condition. If the voltage generated by the fuel cell increases, the current passing through the wire will heat the wire and cause it to shrink or contract which forces the flow control element into the flow path.

  • Patent number: 7886709
Abstract: A spring assembly is mounted on a crankshaft for a vehicle. A selector mechanism for the spring assembly selectively connects the spring assembly to the crankshaft. The selector mechanism is engaged in a first position to connect the spring to the crankshaft when the engine is shut-off such that the crankshaft winds the spring as it rotates. The selector mechanism is then engaged in a second position such that the spring applies a rotational force to re-start the engine. A method for braking the engine includes engaging the crankshaft with the torsion spring and winding the torsion spring with rotation of the crankshaft until the tension within the torsion spring is greater than the force applied to the crankshaft.
