Abstract: The present disclosure relates a rivet body, including a rivet head and a rivet shank, composed of a different material than a mandrel used for insertion into a workpiece(s), the mandrel including a mandrel shaft and a mandrel cap. The rivet body receives the mandrel shaft, including the mandrel cap, through the rivet shank. The mandrel shaft is received by the installation tool, which rotates the rivet body, and the mandrel cap locally deforms workpieces(s) through friction riveting to install the rivet body. During the friction riveting, the fast-rotating rivet body is pushed into the workpiece(s) causing local deformation/melting where the mandrel cap contacts the workpiece(s). The mandrel cap creates a cavity which progresses through an upper surface and a lower surface of the workpiece(s).

  • Patent number: 9295979
Abstract: Particles of a macro-porous ion exchange resin are dispersed in a solution of a transition metal compound, such as a compound of molybdenum, tungsten, or vanadium. The resin may be composed for anion exchange or cation ion exchange and, correspondingly, anions or cations of the metal are exchanged onto active ion exchange sites on the molecular chains of the resin. The resin is then carbonized and graphitized to form nanometer-size particles of transition metal carbide on particles of graphite. The composite metal carbide and graphite particles are electrically conductive and serve well as support particles for later deposited particles of a platinum group metal or other catalyst material in, for example, a catalytic electrode member in an electrochemical cell.

  • Patent number: 9298867
Abstract: A system for simulating operation of an electrical device includes a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) and a host machine. The PCBA includes a communications module, modular power switching modules (PSMs), and modular cells. Using an associated method, each PSM applies a predetermined pulse width modulation (PWM) duty cycle to AC input power to generate a calibrated DC output voltage. The cells, which are connected to a respective PSM, include a microcontroller. The host machine transmits a controller area network (CAN) cell state message to the communications module. The communications module converts the cell state messages into corresponding serial messages, and transmits the serial messages to the microprocessors of the cells to cause the cells to set their states to the desired simulation state. The cells generate the desired simulation state using PWM and transmit a cell status message back to the host machine via the communications module.
