  • Patent number: 11629625
Abstract: Engine systems and methods use a dual air injection approach to control exhaust reactions and to maintain temperatures below a maximum limit of exhaust system components during engine enrichment operation conditions. Dual air injectors are disposed in the exhaust system with one upstream from, and another downstream from, the catalytic converter. Providing air injection before and/or after the converter helps convert all HC, CO, and PM emissions while keeping the catalyst temperature below the catalyst protection temperature limit. Air injection quantity may be controlled and diagnosed by monitoring the temperatures before and after the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter may be a three-way catalytic converter for lower cost or a downstream two-way catalytic converter may be added if further emission reduction is necessary.

  • Patent number: 10233861
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for determining the fuel quantity that is actually injected by a fuel injector in an internal combustion engine. A fuel injector is operated to perform a fuel injection. The first discharge stroke of the fuel pump is deactivated following a start of the fuel injection for preventing the discharge stroke from delivering fuel into the fuel rail. A value of a pressure drop caused into the fuel rail by the fuel injection is calculated. A value of a fuel quantity injected by the fuel injection is calculated on the basis of the calculated value of the pressure drop.

  • Patent number: 10086781
Abstract: Embodiments of a grommet are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, the grommet includes a grommet body having a main body portion, a flange, and an installation extension, an outer surface of the flange at least partially defining a recess, the installation extension connected to the main body portion within the recess and extending at least partially out of the recess, the grommet body having a passage passing therethrough.

  • Patent number: 9874151
Abstract: A method for automatically operating a cam-driven pump is disclosed. The pump is monitored to determine whether a specified detachment condition or potential detachment of an actuator of the pump from a driving cam is occurring. The pump is operated in a minimal pressure holding mode to provide a minimal pressure within a working chamber of the pump so as to bias the actuator towards the cam if it is determined that the detachment condition is occurring.

  • Publication number: 20120265458
Abstract: A method for diagnosing a fault in an electrical component using a diagnostic system having a plurality of sensors. The method includes positioning the electrical component in a predetermined position adjacent the diagnostic system and at a predetermined orientation with respect to the diagnostic system. The method also includes causing a predetermined level of electrical current to flow to the electrical component, the stationary sensors sensing electrical discharge emitted by the electrical component at an area of the fault, and the tangible computerized controller receiving sensor data from the sensors. The method further includes the tangible computerized controller executing the computer-readable instructions to process the sensor data to generate test information including a location of the electrical component at which the fault is occurring in at least two dimensions.

  • Patent number: 8099204
Abstract: A powertrain system includes an engine coupled to an input member of a transmission operative to transmit power between the input member, a torque machine and an output member. The torque machine is connected to an energy storage device. The engine is selectively operative in engine states comprising an engine-on state and an engine-off state. A method for controlling a powertrain system includes determining a first power range for output power of the energy storage device, commanding the engine to transition from a first engine state to a second engine state, and expanding the first power range of the energy storage device and controlling the torque machine based upon the expanded power range of the energy storage device during the transition from the first engine state to the second engine state.
