  • Patent number: 9573476
Abstract: A method and system for waking up a primary microcontroller of a controller in response to a change in a control pilot signal generated by an external device coupled to the controller includes coupling the external device to an input port electrically connected to the controller. A control pilot signal generated by the external device is received by the input port and outputted to a monitoring device of the controller in low power mode. The monitoring device in low power mode polls the control pilot signal and upon detecting a valid change transitions to normal power mode to output a wakeup pulse to the primary microcontroller, which in a sleep state receives the wakeup pulse and wakes up to execute instructions stored on the primary microcontroller. In an example, the system controls recharging of a battery by a charging station which outputs a pulse width modulated control pilot signal.

  • Patent number: 9576352
Abstract: A quantitative metallographic method to measure skin layer thickness in high pressure die cast aluminum components. Because the faster-cooling skin layer region exhibits a higher volume fraction of eutectic phases than that of a slower-cooling inner region, measurements showing such higher eutectic phases can be used to quantify such layer thickness. An image at various thicknesses of a location of interest in a cast component sample is first obtained using an image analyzer, from which eutectic volume fractions within each of the received images may be determined. Comparisons of the determined volume fractions can be made against a known or predicted quantity for a particular alloy composition, and then correlated to the skin layer thickness via differences between the received or measured quantities and those of the known standard.

  • Patent number: 9578047
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for monitoring and detecting intrusions and authenticating messages on a communication network of a vehicle. A plurality of signals transmitted over communications network between an electronic control module and a remote electronic module are monitored. Reflectometry feature sets are extracted from the plurality of signals and compared to a repository of predetermined communication network feature sets to generate a mismatch value. The mismatch value is compared to a predetermined threshold range and an authenticated event occurs when the mismatch value is within the predetermined threshold range. When the mismatch value is outside the predetermined threshold range, a flagged event occurs and is recorded.

  • Patent number: 9574484
Abstract: A method is disclosed for controlling a diesel engine equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The method includes detecting steady state operation of the engine generating a first flow rate of particulate matter (PM) directed into the DPF. The method also includes, during the steady state operation, triggering exhaust gas recirculation to the engine and thereby directing a second PM flow rate that is greater than the first flow rate into the DPF. The method additionally includes detecting a PM flow rate exiting the DPF in response to the second PM flow rate directed into the DPF. The method also includes comparing the detected PM flow rate exiting the DPF with a PM flow rate threshold. Furthermore, the method includes regulating injection of fuel to regenerate the DPF, if the detected PM flow rate exiting the DPF is greater than the PM flow rate threshold.

  • Publication number: 20170044971
Abstract: A method of operating an automotive system having an internal combustion engine equipped with an electric compressor and a turbocharger having a turbocharger compressor is disclosed. A surge threshold line and a pre-surge threshold line in a turbocharger compressor map are defined as a function of a turbocharger compressor pressure ratio and mass flow rate. The pre-surge threshold line is defined in terms of greater mass flow values for each corresponding pressure ratio value of the surge threshold line. The position of a turbocharger compressor working point in the turbocharger compressor map is monitored as a function of the turbocharger compressor pressure ratio and mass flow rate. When an increased torque request is detected, the electric compressor is activated to assist the turbocharger compressor in delivering the requested torque when the turbocharger compressor working point crosses the pre-surge threshold line in a direction towards the surge threshold line.
