  • Patent number: 9522589
Abstract: A vehicular heat pump system may have two inside heat exchangers within an HVAC module, and may operate in mild cooling and mild heating modes. In mild cooling mode, a first isolation valve and a second isolation valve are fully open and closed, respectively, to direct the refrigerant flow to the first inside heat exchanger only. In mild heating mode, the first isolation valve and the second isolation valve are fully closed and fully open, respectively, to direct the refrigerant flow to the second inside heat exchanger only. In both modes, a first metering device is partially open to control the flow and expansion of the refrigerant, and a second metering device is fully closed to prevent the refrigerant from flowing between the inside heat exchangers. This staged operation of the heat pump system may reduce the risk of flash fog as well as reduce discharge air temperature spreads.

  • Patent number: 9525194
Abstract: A method of reversibly connecting two substrates includes positioning an electrically conductive adhesive connector including a shape memory polymer (SMP) between the substrates, heating the connector to a temperature higher than the SMP transition temperature, applying a load and cooling the connector below the transition temperature to transform the connector to a conforming shape to form an adhesive bond attaching the substrates and providing an electrical connection therebetween. The method may include disconnecting the connector from the substrates by heating the connector above the SMP transition temperature, which may disrupt the electrical connection between the substrates. The connector may be a battery tab connector configured to connect a battery cell to another battery cell or a terminal. The connector may be releasable from the battery tab such that the battery tab is reusable after removal of the connector. The connector may be multi-layer and generally arcuate in a permanent shape.

  • Patent number: 9522631
Abstract: A vehicle includes a body having a door and a door latch, a display screen, front and rear seats, a seat belt, buckle and door latch sensors, and a controller. The latch sensors determine a latch state of the seat belt buckle and door latch. The controller determines the respective latch states of the seat belt buckle and the door latch via the respective latch sensors. The controller also displays a first icon/message via the display screen in response to an ignition-off event, with the icon or message prompting a driver to check the rear seat for the presence of a passenger or object. A second control action is executed by the controller in addition to the first control action in response to the latch state of the seat belt buckle and/or door latch being in the latched or closed latch state for less than a calibrated amount of time.

  • Patent number: 9523324
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling fuel injection in an internal combustion engine is disclosed which controls a fuel injection pressure and a fuel injection energizing time, by using as input parameter an estimated corrected injector fuel quantity (Qcrtd). In particular, an injector fuel quantity deviation (?QCB) corresponding to a current engine operating point is estimated and stored in a corresponding point of a map, representing engine operating points defined in terms of injection pressure and injector fuel quantity values. The stored injector fuel quantity deviation (?Qstored) are spread or propagated to each map point. For each engine operating point, the corrected injector fuel quantity (Qcrtd) is calculated by blending estimated values of the injector fuel quantity deviation (?QCB) with corresponding spread values of the stored injector fuel quantity deviation (?Qstored) and summing this result to corresponding target values of the injector fuel quantity (Qtarget).

  • Patent number: 9522599
Abstract: A method and system for accurately estimating one or more vehicle battery parameters, such as state-of-charge (SOC). In an exemplary embodiment, a battery control module gathers standard battery readings for estimating SOC at a relatively slow sampling rate. The battery control module receives adjustment data from one or more control modules located around the vehicle, where the control modules gather readings at faster sampling rates and then provide the information to the slower battery control module. The adjustment data from the faster control modules is representative of energy consumption and/or generation events that occur in between the readings taken by the battery control module at the slower sampling rate, and enable the method to make a more accurate and complete estimate of SOC.
