Abstract: A system and method that, in response to the detection of an impaired driver, develops a scenario-dependent response with an escalating sequence of awakening actions and/or automated driving actions that are designed to mitigate the effects of impaired driving for that particular driving scenario. Some examples of awakening actions include visual, audible, haptic and/or miscellaneous warnings intended to awaken or reengage the impaired driver. If the awakening actions are ineffective, one or more automated driving actions may be used to control certain aspects of vehicle braking, steering, accelerating, etc. The scenario-dependent response is at least partially based on the state, conditions and/or environment in and around the host vehicle (i.e., the current driving scenario) and may take into account factors such as: vehicle dynamics, road characteristics, pedestrian and vehicle traffic conditions, weather conditions and more.
Abstract: A system for selecting a route from a starting location to a predetermined destination includes a vehicle having a battery, a data storage medium, and a processor. The data storage medium stores a map database that describes a road network defining a plurality of possible routes from the starting location to the predetermined destination. The processor is configured to determine whether any of the possible routes belong to a set of routes the vehicle can complete using only the energy in the battery. The processor is configured to select, of the routes belonging to the set, that route having an optimized value for the attribute.

Abstract: An electromagnetic interference reduction assembly for a transmission is disclosed. A transmission casing includes a base and walls extending outwardly away from the base to a distal edge. The transmission casing defines a first cavity between the walls and includes a platform disposed between the walls. A power inverter module is disposed in the first cavity and supported by the platform when in the first cavity. The power inverter module generates electrical noise during operation which produces electromagnetic interference. A lid is attached to the distal edge of the walls to contain the power inverter module inside the first cavity. A grounding member engages the power inverter module and the lid when the lid is attached to the transmission casing to electrically connect the power inverter module to the lid to reduce the electrical noise exiting the first cavity which reduces the electromagnetic interference exiting the first cavity.

Abstract: A number of variations may include a product including: a vehicle having a cargo bed and a plurality of electrical contacts provided in the vehicle bed constructed and arranged to be connected to electrical contacts on a module having a battery. A number of variations may include a method comprising: providing a vehicle having a cargo bed and a plurality of electrical contacts provided in the vehicle bed constructed and arranged to be connected to electrical contacts on a module having a battery, the vehicle including an electric motor for propelling the vehicle; providing at least one module, the module including a module battery and an electrical contact connected to the module battery and constructed and arranged to engage one of the electrical contacts provided in the vehicle bed; charging the module battery and loading the module with the charged module battery on the vehicle bed, and supplying power to the electric motor of the vehicle from the module battery.
Abstract: An adjustable bumper, adapted for supporting closure panels on a vehicle, is described. The bumper incorporates a shape memory polymer portion, which may be readily permanently reshaped by the steps of: heating above its transition temperature, deforming by application of a load, and cooling, while still under load, below its transition temperature. This behavior is exploited to enable adjustment of the adjustable bumper so that it may provide the desired closure panel support while accommodating vehicle to vehicle variations in the fit of the closure panel and the vehicle body.

Abstract: A vehicle and a method of updating efficiency of a selective catalytic reduction filter (SCRF) of an exhaust treatment system of the vehicle are disclosed. The method includes obtaining an initial calculated efficiency of the SCRF, via a controller, regarding one of a NOx conversion, a reductant absorption, a reductant desorption and a reductant oxidation. The method also includes determining a soot mass estimate in the SCRF representative of an amount of soot collected inside the SCRF and determining a soot correction factor from the soot mass estimate. The method further includes calculating, via the controller, an updated efficiency value of the SCRF by multiplying the soot correction factor and the initial calculated efficiency to update efficiency of the SCRF.
