Abstract: A flat metal sealing gasket is made as follows: on an unhardened spring steel plate having an aperture and a bead surrounding the aperture, a sinterable powder is deposited along the bead in a desired shape and thickness. Thereafter a sufficiently high temperature is applied to the deposited sinterable powder to effect sintering or melting of the powder to provide a pressure-resistant overlay on the plate and to simultaneously effect a hardening of the plate.

Abstract: A metal sealing gasket includes first and second opposite, superposed metal cover plates; and an aperture provided in each cover plate. The apertures are in alignment with one another to define a thoroughgoing opening in the metal sealing gasket. Further, first and second projections are provided which form part of the first and second cover plates, respectively. The first and second projections extend into the opening and have overlapping portions which are in a contacting relationship with one another. The first and second projections are situated in their entirety within the opening and thus do not project outwardly beyond the outer surfaces of the cover plates.

Abstract: A cylinder head gasket includes first and second opposite sheet metal cover plates; a combustion chamber opening being formed by aligned apertures in the cover plates; and first and second beads provided in the first and second cover plates, respectively. Each bead has a convex side; the convex sides of the first and second beads are oriented toward one another. The first and second beads are in an orthogonal alignment with one another and surround the combustion chamber opening. The cylinder head gasket further has a spacer plate positioned between the first and second cover plates and is contacted by the convex side of the first and second beads. The spacer plate has an aperture which is in general alignment with the apertures in the cover plates and is defined by an edge face of the spacer plate. There is further provided a separate annular insert positioned in the aperture of the spacer plate.
