Abstract: A flexible attachment means for use with a searchlight or other device is disclosed. The flexible attachment means allows a user to attach a housing to an uneven metallic surface, such as a car hood, boat prow or other locations. The flexible attachment means has an attachment base fixed to the bottom of a housing for the searchlight. The attachment base has attachment locations that flexibly attach to a flexible base gasket having a plurality of magnets to hold the flexible attachment means to a metallic surface.

Abstract: A battery charging station having a main docking station to recharge the battery while the battery is installed in a electrical device and a second charging station that can be removed from the main base is disclosed. The removable charging station allows a user to charge a battery not in use at a remote location from the docking station. If the second charging station is attached to the docking station, the battery in the removable charging station is charged after the battery installed in the light is charged.
Abstract: A railroad car-warning bell is centrally mounted on the hub of a wheel. Three opposed cylinder housings each contain a reciprocating ball which hits an end hammer to sound the bell when the wheel turns slowly up to speeds of nominally 15 mph. At higher speeds the balls are held against the end hammers, thereby automatically shutting off the bell to prevent noise pollution. The preferred embodiment has a single cylinder mounted along a diameter of the ringing bell. Three steel balls oscillate back and forth hitting a hammer at each end of the cylinder. A dampener may be used to adjust the ring of the bell.

Abstract: Fluorescent lanthanide chelates are formed by reacting a .beta.-diketone, an aldehyde, and an amine to produce a dihydropyridine condensation product which is then chelated with a lanthanide metal ion. These fluorescent chelates are made into wavelength-shifting devices by physically supporting the chelates on a polymer. Such wavelength-shifting devices can be optically coupled to a photoelectric cell to increase the portion of the solar spectrum available to the cell for conversion into electricity. Furthermore, the reaction producing the fluorescent lanthanide chelates is used to detect amines or aldehydes in a sample.
Abstract: Photovoltaic cell and wavelength-shifting device, comprising a dihydropyridine condensation product chelated to a lanthanide metal ion, to expand the solar spectrum available to the cell for conversion into electricity. Method to detect an amine or an aldehyde for forming a dihydropyridine condensation product chelated to a lanthanide metal ion and measuring the long life fluorescence of the chelated metal ion to determine the amount of amine or aldehyde present.
