Patent number: 5222589Abstract: A primary conveyor belt cleaner includes an elongated support extending across but spaced from a conveyor belt of width W and includes a stiff guide extending for approximately the full length of the support; a scraper blade of resilient elastomer resin is mounted on the support and engages the conveyor belt surface. The scraper blade has a short base wall removably mounted on the support by a reinforcement that interfits with the guide; the blade has two longer curved side walls, an inner wall concave toward the belt and an outer wall convex away from the belt. The two side walls come together to form a scraping edge. The belt cleaner includes a torsion bias mechanism that resiliently maintains the belt scraping edge in continuous engagement with the belt. Two or more primary cleaners may be incorporated in one system. Flexure of the blade permits passage of a mechanical splice in the belt without appreciable damage to the blade or the splice.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1992Date of Patent: June 29, 1993Assignee: Gordon Belt Scrapers, Inc.Inventor: James R. Patent number: 5222588Abstract: A secondary conveyor belt cleaner includes a metal support of length L1 and a metal guide of continuous or intermittent construction; the support extends across a conveyor belt of width W in spaced relation to the belt. A plurality of belt cleaner blades of total length L2 (W.apprxeq.L1.apprxeq.L2) are mounted on the guide by a plurality of metal cantilever support arms, usually forged aluminum, one per blade; on each arm there is a metal reinforcement that fits snugly in a base wall in its blade. Torsion bias acting on the support rotationally urges the blades against the conveyor belt.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1992Date of Patent: June 29, 1993Assignee: Gordon Belt Scrapers, Inc.Inventor: James R. Patent number: 5149305Abstract: A resilient rotational bias device that is continuously adjustable to supply any preselected rotational bias force to a shaft, within a wide range, by rotation of a multi-step shaft retention member, usually a gear, by a simple drive such as a worm gear that engages the shaft retention member; the shaft retention member an the drive are mounted in a housing that is affixed to one end of a resilient torsion member, the other end of the torsion member being affixed to a stationary frame. All elements of the device other than the torsion member, but including a connector for connecting the shaft retention member to the end of a biased shaft, are mounted in the housing. All elements of the device, except a drive shaft for th worm gear, are usually formed of the same molding resin, preferably polyurethane.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1991Date of Patent: September 22, 1992Assignee: Gordon Belt Scrapers, Inc.Inventor: James R. Patent number: 4989727Abstract: A skirtboard apron for a belt conveyor is formed as an elongated molded or extruded elastomer member having a U-shaped upper mounting portion that slides onto the lower part of a skirtboard; the legs of the U-shaped mounting portion grip the sides of the skirtboard. A wiper portion of the apron, integral with the mounting portion, projects down into engagement with the conveyor belt. No fasteners are required, and no wear adjustments are necessary.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1990Date of Patent: February 5, 1991Assignee: Gordon Belt Scrapers, Inc.Inventor: James R. Gordon

Patent number: 4877125Abstract: A skirtboard member is adjustable and replaceably mounted on a wall above a belt conveyor by a mounting assembly including a cam member molded from a tough, durable resilient resin (e.g., urethane); a key aperture and two radial keyways in the cam member are aligned with two cam ramps that each end in a key latching depression. A key including a shaft and two radial key elements is inserted through the cam member aperture and keyways and twisted to drive the key elements along the ramps to latched position, where a head on the key clamps the skirtboard member on the wall.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1988Date of Patent: October 31, 1989Assignee: Gordon Belt Scrapers, Inc.Inventor: James R. Patent number: 4854443Abstract: A conveyor belt cleaner including an elongated support member extending across but spaced from the conveyor belt comprises a mounting plate including a plurality of anchor apertures at spaced intervals along its length and a corresponding plurality of molded, resilient resin cleaner blade support arms each slotted to receive the mounting plate and each secured on the mounting plate by an anchor lug engaged in an interference fit in one of the anchor apertures. A corresponding plurality of molded, resilient resin cleaner blade units are mounted on the outer ends of the blade support arms; each blade unit has a keyed, slotted interference fit with its support arm. C-shaped metal reinforcements molded into both ends of the blade support arms reinforce the slot mountings.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1988Date of Patent: August 8, 1989Assignee: Gordon Belt Scrapers, Inc.Inventor: James R.
