Abstract: A method for quantitating the amount of lint shed from a paper towel including cleaning a rectangular deposition surface having a short dimension and a long dimension, wherein cleaning comprises spraying the entire surface with glass cleaner, using a substantially lint-free squeegee to push the glass cleaner off one of two short sides of the surface, and using a substantially lint-free sponge to wipe the edges of the surface substantially free of lint; preparing a sample of paper towel to be analyzed; depositing lint from the sample onto the cleaned surface by moving the sample thereupon in a specific pattern; collecting the lint deposited on the surface; and determining the amount of collected lint.
Abstract: A dispenser for dispensing cutlery may include a housing configured to contain a plurality of utensils for dispensing, a dispensing mechanism that includes at least one threaded separating member configured to be driven and separate a utensil from a stack of utensils, and at least one drive mechanism configured to drive the at least one threaded separating member. The dispenser may further include a receptacle configured to receive the utensil separated from the stack of utensils.
Abstract: A method of pulping wastepaper includes providing a pulping vessel with a rotor and at least one flow sensor adapted to measure slurry flow within the pulping vessel. The pulping vessel is charged with wastepaper and water to form a slurry, the amounts of wastepaper and water being present such that the slurry has consistency in the range of from 10% to 30%. The wastepaper charge in the pulping vessel is pulped at a pre-selected power level while monitoring poloidal slurry flow in the pulping vessel; and from time-to-time, water may be added to the pulping vessel when the poloidal flow falls below a predetermined lower threshold flow value in order to reduce viscosity and thereby restore poloidal flow within the pulping vessel. Doppler velocimetry is a preferred method of monitoring pulp flow. In a particularly preferred construction the rotor has a variable power drive.
Abstract: A removeable band for confining a stack of cutlery pieces. The band can include a body having a first end and a second end. The body being an elongated strip of fiber-based material. A window can be formed through the body, and an adhesive can be disposed at least partially over the window. The adhesive can be configured to adhere a portion of the first end of the body to a portion of the second end of the body when the ends of the body overlap to form a continuous band.
Abstract: Utensil dispensers and methods for making and using same. In some examples, the utensil dispensers can include a housing configured to contain a stack of utensils. A stack gauge comprising a gauge arm can be configured to indicate a quantity of utensils in the stack of the utensils in the housing and is visible from outside the housing and the dispenser.

Abstract: Utensil dispensers and methods for making and using same are provided herein. In some examples, the utensil dispensers can include a housing. At least two dispense chassis can be disposed within the housing. Each dispense chassis can be configured to move between a first position in which the dispense chassis is configured to dispense utensils from the housing and a second position in which the dispense chassis is configured to be loaded with utensils. A chassis interlock can be configured to prevent at least one of the dispense chassis that is in the first position from moving toward the second position when one other of the dispense chassis is in the second position.
Abstract: A sheet product (e.g., napkin) dispenser may include an example calibration system and method for a product depletion curve for accurately determining a product level. An example sheet product dispenser includes a housing, a roll holder, a dispensing mechanism, a sensor, and a controller. The sensor is configured to emit a signal toward the product roll and receive a return signal. The controller is configured to receive a calibration product roll and operate the sensor to emit the signal and receive the return signal. The controller determines a brightness value of the return signal and determines a calibration value associated with the determined brightness value. The determined brightness value is within a range of brightness values associated with the calibration value. The controller adjusts a product depletion curve based on at least the determined calibration value and the determined brightness value. Additionally, example product level notification systems are provided herein.

Abstract: A compostable disposable container made from a paperboard laminate. The paperboard laminate has a first paperboard layer, a second paperboard layer, and a waterproof coating disposed between the first and second paperboard layers. One or more additional surface coatings that are water resistant can be added to outer surfaces of the laminate. The laminate structure is able to be press-formed at higher forming temperatures, resulting in a stronger, more rigid container.

Abstract: A sheet product dispenser for dispensing sheet product from a roll of sheet product having a sealed tail is provided. The sheet product dispenser includes a roll interface configured to engage and at least partially support the roll of sheet product, the roll interface including a separating member configured to engage and unseal the sealed tail; a feed roller assembly configured to dispense sheet product from the roll of sheet product, the feed roller assembly including a feed roller configured to engage and at least partially support the roll of sheet product; and a controller operable to initiate driving of the feed roller and rotation of the roll of sheet product such that the sealed tail is unsealed by engaging the separating member. A related method of automatically loading a roll of sheet product having a sealed tail in a sheet product dispenser also is provided.

Abstract: A sheet product roll holder may include a support arm, a spindle, a flowable material container, and an automated flowable material dispensing mechanism. The support arm may define a first longitudinal axis. The spindle may be coupled to the support arm and define a second longitudinal axis extending transverse to the first longitudinal axis, and the spindle may be configured to rotatably support a roll of sheet product thereon. The flowable material container may be positioned at least partially within the spindle and define a third longitudinal axis extending coaxially with the second longitudinal axis, and the flowable material container may include a container body and a volume of a flowable material positioned within the container body. The automated flowable material dispensing mechanism may be positioned at least partially within the support arm and configured to dispense the flowable material from the flowable material container.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of increasing the brightness of non-wood fibers and nonwoven fabric fabrics produced by the method. In one aspect, the method includes forming a mixture of non-wood fibers and exposing the mixture to a brightening agent to produce brightened fibers. The brightening agent is oxygen gas, peracetic acid, a peroxide compound, or a combination thereof. The brightened fibers have a brightness greater than the fibers of the mixture before exposure as measured by MacBeth UV-C standard.
Abstract: Utensil dispensers and methods for making and using same. The utensil dispensers can include a housing configured to contain a stack of utensils. The stack of utensils can include a next utensil. A drive mechanism can be configured to contact the next utensil. An access port can provide an opening to the housing. An actuator can be operably connected to the drive mechanism and configured to move the drive mechanism into a release position such that the drive mechanism contacts the next utensil in the stack of the utensils to push the next utensil causing the next utensil to release from the stack of the utensils and become a released utensil. The released utensil can fall to a dispense position and be accessible via the access port for removing from the dispenser. A prime mechanism can be configured to move the drive mechanism to the release position without removing any released utensil from the dispense position.
