Abstract: A heat sealing instrument for use in the treatment and prevention of hair loss and stimulation of new hair includes a heating element, a protective shroud, a handle, and control circuitry. The heating element is heated to a temperature of from about 400 to about 1,000° F. sufficient for fusing and sealing the cuticle, cortex, and medulla layers of a hair shaft. The instrument includes a control panel for monitoring and adjusting the temperature of the heating device and a vacuum source and filter combination for drawing in and filtering the fumes from the area around the heating element.
