Patents Assigned to Graduate Management Admission Council
  • Patent number: 11636775
Abstract: An automated method of assembling computerized adaptive test (CAT) pools of test items is provided. A plurality of item bins is created. Each item bin is associated with a different content domain, and each item bin includes only items associated with its respective content domain. The items in each item bin are grouped into a plurality of individual cells, wherein each item is placed in only one of the individual cells, and each cell includes a plurality of items which span a range of difficulty levels. The grouping is performed by linear programming at the individual cell level. One or more pools of items are assembled from a random selection of cells across the item bins, wherein there is only one cell for each item bin. The CAT is administered by randomly assigning each test taker to one of the pools of items.

  • Patent number: 9847039
Abstract: Automated methods and systems are provided for presenting and scoring items which are presented in different question formats that include graphics interpretation, two-part analysis, table analysis, and multi-source reasoning. There are a plurality of response opportunities for each item, and each response opportunity is independent of each other. In operation, an item is presented in the respective question format on a processor-controlled user interface display screen. A response engine receives the response for each response opportunity. A scoring engine in communication with the response engine receives the plurality of responses and scores the plurality of responses by determining whether the response selected for each response opportunity is correct, and assigning credit for the item only if each of the responses for each of the response opportunities is correct, and assigning no credit for the item if at least one of the responses for each of the response opportunities is incorrect.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method is provided of identifying potential unauthorized distribution of copyrighted information. The copyrighted information includes copyrighted items and copyright filing information for each of the copyrighted items. A database file is provided of the copyrighted information. Also, a source of items is provided from an entity other than the copyright owner which contains items that are potentially in violation of the copyrighted items. An automatic comparison is made. The copyrighted items in the database file of copyrighted information are automatically compared in a computer with the items in the source of items. The comparison identifies any items in the source of items that are potentially in violation of a copyrighted item due to similarities with the copyrighted items. The identified items are displayed in association with the copyrighted items that are potentially being violated and the copyright filing information of the copyrighted items that are potentially being violated.

  • Patent number: 7542989
Abstract: A method is provided for identifying unauthorized use of copyrighted information. The method includes the processes of accessing a database of copyrighted information, accessing information used for searching the copyrighted information, optionally accessing contextual information concerning the copyrighted materials, accessing a set of materials suspect of infringing on the copyrighted information, receiving an input corresponding to the type of search to be conducted, and receiving a second input corresponding to a class of copyrighted information with respect to the search function. In addition, the method includes the processes of determining a result when data within the database of copyrighted information and a file of infringement suspects satisfies a predetermined set of logic, of determining a result when data within the database of copyrighted information and an input formatted text string satisfies a predetermined set of logic, and storing and presenting the results.
