    Abstract: One use for irradiated graphite after remediation processing is to recycle it into a new graphite artifact. Examples of such artifacts include an electrode to be used for vitrification of radionucleotides, graphite or carbon articles for uranium processing, a moderator for a HTGR, in particularly a Gen IV HTGR, other types of graphite products for nuclear facilities, charcoal filters, silicon carbide applications, etc. Such graphite artifacts can be formed with up to 20 pph of carbon black, the carbon black is formed from vitrified irradiated graphite. Optionally the graphite artifact may be formed from up to 75 pph of pitch.

Each thermal transfer sheet is positioned to contact the major surface of the at least one prismatic battery and is bent over the curved outer edge. At least a portion of each thermal transfer sheet is secured between a heat sink and the side face.

    Abstract: A battery pack thermal management assembly draws heat from prismatic batteries having opposed major surfaces and arranged in a stacked configuration inside a housing. The thermal management assembly includes a plurality of thermal transfer sheets made from sheets of a compressed mass of exfoliated graphite particles. Each thermal transfer sheet is positioned to contact the major surface of at least one of the prismatic batteries. A cover plate has a top face and a bottom face and includes a plurality of apertures through which the plurality of thermal transfer sheets extend. The apertures include at least one curved sidewall and the thermal transfer sheets are bent over the curved sidewall. At least a portion of each of the thermal transfer sheets is secured between a heat sink and the top face.

    Abstract: An improved method of operating an arc furnace is provided. The sidewall of the furnace includes a refractory lining. A charge of scrap metal is added to the furnace. The charge is melted and a slag layer is formed on the top of the melting charge. The furnace is tapped at the bottom to remove a portion of the melted charge. After tapping the furnace, the slag is splashed onto the sidewall to thereby coat the sidewall with a frozen slag layer.
