Publication number: 20020109125Abstract: The invention presented relates to a process for providing increased electrical and/or thermal conductivity to a material, and to the materials prepared by the process. More particularly, the invention relates to a process involving applying particles of expanded graphite to a substrate or material in order to increase its conductivity. The particles of expanded graphite can be applied to the substrate or material through coating of the substrate with a composition comprising the expanded graphite particles, or by incorporating particles of expanded graphite into the substrate or material itself.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 14, 2002Publication date: August 15, 2002Applicant: UCAR Graph-Tech Inc.Inventors: Daniel Witold Krassowski, Jing-Wen Tzeng, Brian McNeil Ford

Patent number: 6245400Abstract: A release lined pressure sensitive adhesive flexible graphite sheet article is provided having low thermal resistance properties comparable to the flexible graphite material itself when compared to prior art PSA sheet products and wherein the release liner is easily removed with the sheet is to be used without any significant delamination of the flexible graphite. The flexible graphite sheet comprises a flexible graphite substrate, an adhesive primer coating thereon, a pressure sensitive adhesive coating on the adhesive primer coating and a release liner applied to the pressure sensitive adhesive coating. Double sided pressure sensitive adhesive flexible graphite sheets can also be made using the method of the invention.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1998Date of Patent: June 12, 2001Assignee: UCAR Graph-Tech Inc.Inventors: Jing-Wen Tzeng, George Getz, Jr., Thomas William Weber

Patent number: 6149972Abstract: Intercalated graphite flake which has enhanced exfoliation volume characteristics at relatively low exfoliation temperatures e.g. 600.degree. C. is made by heating a blend of intercalated particles and an organic reducing agent in the temperature range of 25.degree. to 110.degree. C.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1998Date of Patent: November 21, 2000Assignee: UCAR Graph-Tech. Inc.Inventor: Ronald Alfred Greinke

Patent number: 6143218Abstract: Flexible graphite sheet is made by compressing a mixture of fine particle of intercalated, exfoliated, expanded natural graphite with fine particles of intercalated, unexpanded, expandable particles of natural graphite, the unexpanded particles being more finely sized than the expanded particles. The resulting sheet of flexible graphite exhibits improved fire retardant and sealability properties.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1999Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Assignee: UCAR Graph-Tech Inc.Inventor: Robert Angelo Mercuri

Patent number: 5157969Abstract: A self-contained apparatus for forming metal sheet is adapted for operation within a standard double action press having a base and outer and inner vertically reciprocating slides and includes a basic die mountable to the press and specific tooling replaceably mountable to the basic die. The basic die includes an upper shoe mountable to the outer slide, a lower shoe mountable atop the base and hydraulic cylinder assemblies connected to the lower shoe and mechanically actuatable by the inner slide for providing pressurized fluid to the specific tooling. The specific tooling includes mating upper and lower dies connected to the corresponding upper and lower shoes and movable between open and closed positions.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1989Date of Patent: October 27, 1992Assignees: Armco Steel Co., L.P., Graph-Tech, Inc., Price EnterprisesInventor: Ralph E. Patent number: 4455938Abstract: The present invention relates to a dampening apparatus for lithographic offset printing presses. A form roller having an ink receptive compressible surface is pressed against a plate on the plate cylinder, and a metering means lying parallel and tangent to the form roller having a relatively incompressible ink receptive surface is pressed against the form roller. A reservoir of dampening solution is maintained above the nip of the form roller and metering roller, and is automatically maintained. Rotation of the form roller results in a metered quantity of solution being fed to the form roller, a portion of that quantity being applied to the lithographic plate, and the excess of that quantity being returned to the supply.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 1983Date of Patent: June 26, 1984Assignee: Graph Tech Inc.Inventor: James R. Loudon
