Patent number: 4149033Abstract: The disclosure is of facsimile apparatus having support means for holding a telephone handset during operation of the machine in receiving or transmitting a message. This means comprises a seat of rubber on which the handset rests, and, in addition, a ring of smooth material on which the handset slides as it is brought into engagement with the support means and as it is slipped into its operating position with respect to the support means. The apparatus also includes a novel, spring support arrangement for the handset support.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1977Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Assignee: Graphic Sciences, Inc.Inventors: Matthew J. Costello, Albert M. De Luca, Thomas K. Saunders, James F. McGuire

Patent number: 4148076Abstract: A facsimile machine includes a cylinder for supporting a paper which is to receive a message or which carries a message to be transmitted by telephone lines to a remote location. The machine includes a read-write assembly which is mounted for movement back and forth across the paper-carrying cylinder. The read-write assembly includes a light assembly for directing light onto a printed document, a stylus for printing electrostatic charge on a blank sheet of paper, and a relatively simple mechanical apparatus for switching the machine from the read status to the write status.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1978Date of Patent: April 3, 1979Assignee: Graphic Sciences, Inc.Inventors: Matthew J. Costello, Thomas K. Saunders, Albert M. DeLuca

Patent number: 4005257Abstract: A compact facsimile transceiver occupying minimum space includes a straight-line transmitter section and a receiver section disposed beneath a portion of the transmitter. The transmitter transports documents through its scanner section, one by one in essentially a straight line by means of simplified and improved paper-handling apparatus which holds the documents flat. An editor in the transmitter permits segments of the documents being transmitted to be selectively deleted from the transmission. The receiver includes a simple and efficient paper-cutter mechanism and paper-transporting apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1975Date of Patent: January 25, 1977Assignee: Graphic Sciences, Inc.Inventors: Robert E. Krallinger, Vladimir Ignatjev, Ralph K. Rand, Matthew Joseph Costello

Patent number: 3992623Abstract: A folded retro-reflective optical scanner using common major optics for both scanning and reading and achieving a long scan line (8.25 inches) with a short throw distance and little bow. Astigmatic effects in the reading beam are minimized by utilizing only the center portion of the return beam for reading.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1975Date of Patent: November 16, 1976Assignee: Graphic Sciences, Inc.Inventors: Richard W. Rhyins, Ralph Rand, Matthew J. Costello, Robert E. Krallinger

Patent number: 3965292Abstract: Paper feeding and handling apparatus, especially for a facsimile receiver, including a cradle for supporting a roll of paper and for raising and lowering it to permit handling of the roll. Roll and guide means lead the paper from the supply roll to a writing station which also includes sheet-cutting means. A sheet-handling tray is disposed to receive the written and cut sheets, and various mechanical means are provided to feed and support the cut sheets.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1975Date of Patent: June 22, 1976Assignee: Graphic Sciences, Inc.Inventors: Matthew J. Costello, Donald T. Dolan, Andre T. Dehaudringhien, Antoon M. Hurkmans, Kenneth R. Jasinski, Edward G. Keplinger

Patent number: 3949869Abstract: The cassette of the invention comprises a plastic tray having at one end an array of projecting curved fingers and an auxiliary member having an array of curved fingers, with the auxiliary member adapted to seat on the base so that the curved fingers of the base form a smooth curve with the curved fingers of the auxiliary member. Before the auxiliary member is seated on the base, a plurality of separator sheets to be carried thereby are secured to the base by means of holes which are threaded on the first curved fingers. The auxiliary member is then seated in place, and ultrasonic vibrations are applied to heat and fuse the separate fingers to form unitary continuous curved rings which hold the sheets in place.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1975Date of Patent: April 13, 1976Assignee: Graphic Sciences, Inc.Inventor: Ralph K.
