  • Patent number: 10880623
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for automated vegetation growth, condition and status monitoring near high voltage utility electric lines using stationary sensors, wireless or wired communications and computation technologies and proprietary algorithms. The method and system of the current invention monitors the power line infrastructures remotely and advises the vegetation maintenance crews on mitigating actions without requiring human interventions, thus saving cost and reducing risks to the humans and environment. A comprehensive vegetation encroachment condition report with vegetation proximity advisory (VPA) and vegetation resolution advisory (VRA) is automatically generated and transmitted to the operational staff by the system for each electric line span at certain time interval or continuously without boots-on-the-ground manual asset inspection and/or air patrol using aircraft.

  • Publication number: 20200364621
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed in which information related to an orientation or motion pattern of a mobile device system is detected. A determination is made whether the orientation information detected corresponds to a predetermined motion pattern or orientation for collecting event stamp information. The event stamp information may include a location and/or other event information. If the detected orientation and/or motion patterns is detected, the event stamp information is automatically collected in response to the determination, and the event stamp information is at least temporarily stored.

  • Patent number: 10390212
Abstract: This specification generally relates to a method for tracking one or more persons in a relationship between a tracker and the one or more participants. The method can include using an event stamp function to activate the tracking system. The person being tracked determines when they are trackable by connecting to a proximity grid. When the person being tracked wants to be tracked, that person connects to a proximity grid, and when the person being tracked does not want to be tracked, that person disconnects from the proximity grid, thereby simplifying setting up rules for when the person being tracked can be tracked.

  • Publication number: 20180098137
Abstract: The present invention solves a very complex problem that is a major obstacles for electric utility industry's power lines vegetation encroachment management business. Vegetation contacts to the high voltage overhead power lines cause flash-over and/or blackout which results in hazardous situations and economic losses. Power line vegetation management is a very cost intensive business process which is essential to ensure safe, reliable and affordable electric energy supply by the electric utilities, transmission and generation owners. This routine electric utility vegetation management related work is mandated and overseen by applicable federal, state or local regulatory agencies. The state-of-the-art vegetation management process involves labor and cost intensive foot-patrol, vehicular patrol, air patrol and airborne LiDAR patrol of power lines. These methods are often inefficient, unreliable, risky and costly.

  • Patent number: 9767418
Abstract: Events may be identified by storing information in response to activating an event stamp function. As a result of activating the event function, the information collected may immediately be compared to event information in a database. Alternatively, the information collected may later be compared to event information in a database. One or more candidates for the event of interest may be automatically or manually retrieved, and the user may decide whether a candidate event of the one or more candidates correspond to the event of interest. Alternatively, a purchase of an item related to the event may be automatically made in response to activating the event stamp.

  • Patent number: 8924033
Abstract: The subject specification comprises a generalized grid security platform (GGSP) that can control power distribution and operations in a power transmission and distribution grid (PTDG) in real or near real time. The GGSP can receive data from one or more data sources, including a PMU(s) or an IED(s), which can obtain power system related data and provide at least a portion of such data to the GGSP at a subsecond rate. The GGSP can correlate data from the data sources based at least in part on a temporal, geographical, or topological axis. The GGSP can analyze the data, including performing predictive analysis, e.g., via simulation, root cause analysis, post mortem analysis, or complex event processing, when desired, to facilitate identifying a current or predicted future state of the PTDG, a cause or source of an abnormal condition, or a remedial action execution plan, new operation or maintenance guidance, etc.

  • Publication number: 20140312859
Abstract: Phase balancing techniques for power transmission systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, a phase balancing protocol (240) includes executing a first phase balancing protocol (350) in relation to a first power transmission section (400a). A second phase balancing protocol (370) may be executed if the first phase balancing protocol (350) is unable to provide a phase balanced condition. The first phase balancing protocol (350) may utilize a first ordering sequence (364) to rank the current flow on the power lines (16) of the first power transmission section (400a), while the second phase balancing protocol (370) may utilize a second ordering sequence (384) to rank the current flow on the power lines (16) of the first power transmission section (400a). The order sequences (364, 384) are opposite of each other—one ranks the current flows from high-to-low, and the other ranks the current flow from low-to-high.

Abstract: Determination of information relating to a location of an electrical fault in an electrical energy distribution system based on phasor information is disclosed. A component can receive phasor information and electrical energy distribution system information. The system can determine a distance factor based on the phasor information. The distance factor can be employed to determine fault location information. A set of fault location information can be generated. Fault location information can be corrected for fault characteristics. Equivalent circuit models can be employed in determining the distance factor. Fault locations can be validated to facilitate generating subset of fault location information. Access to fault location information can be facilitated.

  • Publication number: 20140129204
Abstract: Aspects of state estimation for cooperative electrical grids are disclosed. State estimation of a local electrical grid can be based on a local grid model and local electrical grid information. The local state estimation can reflect interactions and interconnections with other electrical grids by determining state estimation solution information based on the local grid model, local electrical grid information, and remote state estimator solution information associated with the other electrical grid. As such, a local state estimator can be configured to receive and employ remote state estimator solution information. This can be in addition to the more conventional technique or receiving a remote grid model and remote electrical grid information to estimate the conditions of the remote electrical grid. Further, state estimation solution information can be incremental to further reduce the amount of information to be transferred and the time needed to accomplish transmission of the information.

Abstract: Aspects of interaction with multidimensional information for an energy system are disclosed. The use of multidimensional information in a graphical user interface can facilitate efficient communication of information related to energy systems. Energy system information can be classified. A multidimensional information interface can include a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns populated with tokens representing energy system information, based on the classification of the energy system information. The tokens can be selectable tokens such that selection of tokens can be related to accessing detailed information related to the token. In some embodiments, indicators, particularly visual indicators, can be employed to convey additional information, such as counts, selection status, sums of rows or columns, etc. Further, augmentation effects can be employed to facilitate access to an additional layer of information, such as freshness of a token, acknowledged tokens, etc.
