  • Publication number: 20230411955
Abstract: A current sinking arrangement is provided that comprises a current sinking arrangement for connection to three phases of an AC grid, operable for reduction of short circuit fault currents in the AC grid, the current diverting arrangement comprising first, second and third phase arrangements, each including first and second grid terminals and a current diversion branch having a first impedance and a first switch and connected to a common floating conductor. On reception of a signal indicating a fault, which requires fault current reduction, a switching arrangement is arranged to make the first switches conducting so as to divert a portion of the fault current away from the AC grid fault location to the common floating conductor.

  • Patent number: 11239657
Abstract: An AC switching arrangement is provided with an energy transfer arrangement connected in parallel with a switching mechanism. The energy transfer arrangement comprises a capacitance arrangement and a diode arrangement. The switching mechanism normally closed in a first state, and on reception of a signal indicating the second state, the switching mechanism is arranged to open. When the switching mechanism is in the second state, the diode arrangement is arranged in each AC half cycle to enable energy (source energy, stored inductance energy, etc.) to transfer from the grid to the capacitance arrangement but to prevent energy transfer from the capacitance arrangement back to the grid.

  • Patent number: 9509135
Abstract: A fault current limiter is provided that comprises a magnetically saturable core. The first core includes a first leg, a second leg, with a first AC coil wound on the second leg, a third leg, with a second AC coil wound around the third leg, the first and second AC coils being wound in series and connected to a first phase AC source, and a fourth leg. The first magnetic biasing unit is arranged to produce a first closed magnetic circuit in the first leg and the second leg that has a first flux direction, and the second coil is arranged to produce a second closed magnetic circuit in the fourth leg and the third leg that has a second flux direction, wherein the first flux direction opposes the second flux direction. The first and second AC coils are arranged to produce a first closed AC magnetic circuit in the second and third legs in an AC flux direction that alternates with each AC half-cycle.
