Abstract: Compositions and methods of the present invention prevent, inhibit or reduce the toxic effects of proteins and toxins secreted from microbes. A method for neutralizing microbial protein products in a subject comprises administering a composition to the subject, said composition comprising plasma-derived IgM and optionally one or more excipients in a pharmaceutical carrier, wherein the composition is administered in an amount effective to neutralize the microbial protein products.
Abstract: A method and device detect defects in the closure of encapsulated vials. The method includes scanning a profile of the capsule and of the vial using a profilometer, thus obtaining a point cloud. From the point cloud obtained, calculating at least one of the following parameters: diameter or radius of the closure circumference of the capsule; angle of intersection between the lower skirt and the side of the capsule; length of the lower skirt; and/or a distance from the end of the lower skirt to the neck of the vial. The method determines whether any of the parameters calculated in the previous step exceeds a predetermined value. The device detecting defects in the closure of encapsulated vials includes a profilometer configured to scan a profile of the capsule and of the vial and a control device configured to execute the method.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide methods for the treatment or prevention of infection-related immune conditions using compositions comprising IgM.
Abstract: A method of treating a blood pressure disorder comprises identifying a patient having a blood pressure disorder, and administering a treatment regime comprising two or more rounds of plasmapheresis to the patient, wherein the treatment regime lowers blood pressure in the patient.
Abstract: A device for therapeutic plasma exchange includes an extracorporeal circuit, which includes a blood supply line, a separating unit, a line for infusion of formed elements, a line for infusion of replacement fluid, a blood plasma line, an anticoagulant line and at least one independent line for therapeutic drugs. The independent line can include a storage for the therapeutic drug, a conveyer of therapeutic drug, a propelling device and a controller configured to control flow of the therapeutic drug.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an in vitro method for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD), comprising the steps of: a) determining the content of mercaptoalbumin (HMA) in a sample of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF); and b) comparing the content determined with the content of HMA in CSF in healthy subjects. If the HMA content is less than that of the healthy subjects, it is indicative of AD.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to arrangements for attaching an RFID tag to a liquid container, and particularly to a blood components container. The RFID tag may be inserted in an enclosure, such as peel tab, or in a sealed cup attached to a container port. The tag could alternately be embedded in a molded plug or component attached to a port. The RFID antenna could be painted or stamped on the surface of the container. Or the tag could be inserted into the container to float freely in the liquid components. The RFID source may be secured around the neck of a rigid or semi-rigid container, attached with a tether or attached to a connector assembled in association with a blood component or other fluid flow path.
