Patents Assigned to Groupement pour les Activities Atomiques et Advancees "GAAA"
  • Patent number: 4030538
Abstract: A device for adjusting the quantity of molten metal used in pressure casting has a pump pumping molten metal up from a supply container to a pressure chamber and to a level-determining tank having an adjustable overflow. Hydrostatic pressure balances the levels in the level-determining tank and the pressure chamber so that adjusting the overflow also adjusts the level of metal in the pressure chamber.

  • Patent number: 4016096
Abstract: The closing method comprises the installing, on the inside rim of the barrel, of a seal having multiple beads and, after filling, the applying of a first hollow lid driven into the barrel down to the level of the seal, then the installing of a conventional flat lid in overlying fashion. The seal can comprise two beads and may assume a U-shape. Application is possible to the transporting of any particularly toxical or radioactive substances.

  • Patent number: 4010960
Abstract: Rotating seal sealing by viscous effect, intalled on a rotating shaft crossing through a bore separating, from the outside medium, an enclosure containing a fluid kept under pressure, comprising at its center two threads having an unequal length and having reverse pitches, separated by a groove and two lip seals for a rotating shaft of the conventional type on either side of the threads. The gap between the two lip seals is fed with viscous fluid by two tanks, one of which is at the pressure of the fluid for which sealing is to be provided. Application to the passing of shafts rotating at a high speed for all types of enclosures containing a gas or a liquid under pressure which can reach several tens of bars.

  • Patent number: 4003560
Abstract: Molten corrosive metals such as aluminium are treated, especially for purification, by injecting of gases such as chlorine or nitrogen. This gas-treatment plant comprises a gas-treatment device immersed in a part of a furnace containing molten metal; an electromagnetic pump, situated above the gas-treatment device, stirs the mixture of gas and metal by counter-pressure operation and slag is formed in a decanting tank.

  • Patent number: 3999998
Abstract: Compound isotropic ceramic substance having ceramic fibers dispersed in a proportion greater than 20% by weight of the total weight of the final product, having excellent resistance to thermal shocks. The ceramic substance is constituted by ceramic fibers with calcium aluminate fulfilling the function of a hydraulic binding agent. The dispersing of the fibers in the binding agent may be obtained either in contact with a weight of water of the order of the weight of solid ingredients or dry, with water then being incorporated in a subsequent stage of the manufacturing process.
