Patent number: 4791377Abstract: A frequency synthesizer has in series a digital synthesizer, mix and divide circuits, and a mix only circuit. Each mix and divide circuit includes a mixer having an IF input, a LO input and a RF output, a filter, and a frequency divider. A segment of a digital word selects a tone from a tone generator and also selects a passband of the filter. The selected tone is coupled to the LO input of the mixer. The frequency divider divides the filtered RF output of the mixer. The mix only circuit is at the output of the last of the series connected mix and divide circuits. The mix only circuit is similar to a mix and divide circuit, but does not have a frequency divider. The digital synthesizer provides a signal to the input of the first of the series connected mix and divide circuits, the frequency of which corresponds to a segment of a digital word. The filter is preferably a voltage tunable bandpass filter.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1987Date of Patent: December 13, 1988Assignee: GTE Government Systems CorporationInventors: John Grandfield, James T. Patent number: 4789895Abstract: A telecommunication system for synchronizing a digital bit stream sent from a central facility to a terminal on lines of television frames. Each active line starts with a horizontal sync pulse and a color burst. A first data clock at the central facility provides first data clock pulses synchronized with said color burst. A circuit at the central facility provides a flag bit one clock pulse wide delayed by a first constant number of clock pulses from the start of the line's horizontal sync pulse. A second data clock at the terminal provides second data clock pulses synchronized with said color burst. A circuit at said terminal provides a time window delayed by a second constant number of clock pulses from the start of the line's horizontal sync pulse so as to bracket said flag bit. A plurality of second data clock pulses occur during said time window.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1987Date of Patent: December 6, 1988Assignee: GTE Government Systems CorporationInventors: Mehmet Mustafa, Ernest P. Patent number: 4785307Abstract: A crossed log-periodic dipole antenna having a unique feedline/boom structure providing improved antenna performance. The antenna is assembled from a pair of orthogonally displaced log-periodic antennas each having a pair of half-dipole structures, each structure having a half-dipole assembly and a central feed boom. The half-dipole assembly comprises a single sheet of conducting material formed to provide a central boom portion and a plurality of half-dipole elements projecting radially from opposite sides of the boom. The boom portion has a reduced thickness, a shape which complements that of the outer surface of the boom, and is press-fitted against and bonded to the boom exterior to form an integrated rigid unit. This configuration minimizes the force required to connect each half-dipole assembly with the adjacent boom, decreases the offset distance between the two dipole halves of each antenna, and reduces the electrical shadowing effect of the booms on the antennas.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1987Date of Patent: November 15, 1988Assignee: GTE Government Systems CorporationInventor: Samuel C. Patent number: 4722129Abstract: A hand-held tool having an elongated rod-like body with an arcuately-shaped head tapered to a rounded point for use in removing insulated wires from the end of a braided shielded cable. The tip is intentionally rounded to prevent puncturing the insulation or catching on the braided wires when the tip is inserted between the wire insulation and the shield. The outer 1/2 of the tapered head portion has a substantially elliptical cross section, as opposed to simply circular, to distribute the load bearing forces across a greater surface area on the wire insulation when the wire is pulled out of the shield. The other 1/2 of the tapered head portion is a transition to the cylindrical body from the curved ellipsoidal section. In a preferred embodiment, the tool is constructed of a polycarbonate plastic with a smoothed surface on the tapered head portion to facilitate the insulated wires sliding across the surface during use.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1986Date of Patent: February 2, 1988Assignee: GTE Government Systems CorporationInventor: Ron F.
