Patents Assigned to GTE Sylvania Canada Limited
  • Patent number: 4424405
Abstract: An electrical wiring box arrangement comprises a non-metallic wiring box having a channel running a portion of the length of each end wall for slideably receiving a gripping member. The gripping member has two opposed body members each having a sloping face for interacting with sloping wall portions of the box wall channel, each body member further having a curved face for engaging the mounting screw of a wiring device. The mounting screw of a wiring device passes into the box wall channel and is engaged between the body portions of the gripping member. As the mounting screw is turned, the gripping member is drawn up into the box wall channel, the sloping walls of which urge the two halves of the gripping member toward one another, increasingly binding the body members down on the mounting screw.

  • Patent number: 4392012
Abstract: Electrical wiring box arrangments comprise a wiring box with a wall structure having a channel for slideably receiving a gripping member for engaging the mounting screw of a wiring device mounted in the box. The gripping member comprises a body having two opposed elements which engage and grip the threads of the mounting screw. Inwardly tapering wall portions of the box wall channel urge the two gripping member elements toward one another as the mounting screw is tightened, insuring a firm grip between the mounting screw and the gripping member.

  • Patent number: 4316999
Abstract: Electrical wiring box arrangements comprise a wiring box with end, side, and rear walls and a cable clamp. The wiring box wall structure is provided with knock-out regions, a first cable-engaging means, and means for attaching the cable clamp to a wall having knock-out regions. The cable clamp comprises a flexible flat sheet, attachable at one end to the box wall structure interior to the box. The opposite end of the cable clamp is provided with a foot portion, formed at an acute dihedral angle with the main body of the clamp.A non-metallic sheathed electrical cable inserted through a knock-out opening in the box wall structure, deflects the unattached end of the clamp inwardly into the box, engaging the cable against removal from the knock-out opening in an outward direction by the action of the first cable-engaging means and the heel of the clamp foot portion bearing oppositely against the cable sheath.

  • Patent number: 4306109
Abstract: Electrical wiring box arrangements are provided which include an electrical wiring box and a one-piece cable clamp and electrical wiring device mounting member. The clamp and wiring device mounting member is slideably received in slots in the wiring box wall structure and held in placed against a box wall. The clamp and wiring device mounting member is provided with deflective leg portions which clamp an electrical cable passing through a knock-out opening in the wiring box wall structure. The clamp and wiring device mounting member is further provided with a mounting tab for mounting an electrical wiring device within the box and, in a preferred embodiment, with a grounding wire attachment for use particularly with non-metallic wiring box arrangements.

  • Patent number: 4264046
Abstract: Electrical bushing and cable clamp device for non-metallic sheathed cable. The clamp device has a body member with passageway for cable and clamping members selectively insertable in the passageway for clamping a variety of cable sizes. Clamping members are tethered to the body member by flexible and resilient tether strips which bias the clamping members when inserted into the passageway. The bushing and cable clamp device provides for insertion of a cable in the device either prior to or subsequent to installation of the device in an electrical wiring box and for facile repositioning of a cable clamped in the device without the need for tools.

  • Patent number: 4176759
Abstract: An improved electrical outlet box of the type having a spacer member, providing a back wall and end walls, and two side walls. The box has cooperating members for rotatably wedging one end of each side wall against an end wall to securely fasten it to the spacer member. The box also has an arrangement for camming the end walls together with the side walls to provide a tight box. The box includes bulged side walls for providing additional working space within the box while at the same time improving its mounting. The box also includes a different improved arrangement for use in fastening it to a support.

  • Patent number: 4167056
Abstract: A hand tool for quickly, easily, and cleanly removing concentric knockout rings from electrical sheet metal enclosures. The tool is an elongated member fabricated of flat metal stock. Notches in opposite edges at one end of the tool are adapted to engage opposite inner edges of a knockout ring having a central opening. The tool is rocked back and forth pivoting the two halves of the knockout ring about the tabs retaining it in the sheet metal of the enclosure until the tabs fracture completely severing the knockout ring from the enclosure and providing an opening in the enclosure wall for accommodating cable or conduit.
