Patents Assigned to GTE Sylvania N.V.
  • Patent number: 5177396
Abstract: A light mirror and a lamp including a light mirror are disclosed. The light mirror includes a light pervious substrate having a reflecting surface, a metal coating disposed in the reflecting surface, and a dichroic coating disposed on the metal coating. The dichroic coating is designed to reflect essentially all of the visible light spectrum and to transmit infra-red radiation and any unreflected portion of the visible light spectrum. A method for controlling the heat transmission of a cold light mirror is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5150017
Abstract: A high pressure sodium lamp having a fill within an elongated arc tube comprising an inert starting gas, mercury and sodium wherein said mercury and sodium being are in an amount less than two milligrams per cubic centimeter of said volume of the interior of the arc tube wherein the weight ratio of sodium to mercury is less than 1 to 20 whereby the lamp is saturated with sodium and unsaturated with mercury at said predetermined nominal output voltage and does not extinguish at an input voltage exceeding about 90 percent of said rated voltage.

  • Patent number: 5023512
Abstract: A lamp including an evacuated outer jacket, a light source capsule mounted within an evacuated outer jacket, and getter assembly disposed within the outer jacket is disclosed. the getter assembly includes a getter and protection device for protecting lamp parts, e.g., the inner surface of the outer jacket, during flashing of the getter. In a most preferred embodiment, the protection device is formed by a small glass envelope, preferably similar to a photoflash bulb envelope, having a small opening. A getter, such as a getter ring, typically used in the lighting art, is mouted within the bulb envelope. When the getter is activated, the metal vapor of the activated getter is caught inside this bulb envelope and condenses on the inside glass surface of the latter. the impurities within the outer jacket of the lamp diffuse through the opening in the bulb envelope of the protection device of the preferred embodiment and are absorbed by the getter.

  • Patent number: 4260930
Abstract: An antenna getter assembly for cathode ray tubes includes an electrically insulating member between the getter ring and the electron gun. The insulating member is provided with a shield which protects the member from deposition of conductive materials thereon and also prevents electrostatic charging thereof. The assembly is employed in conjunction with high electrical resistance internal coatings.

  • Patent number: 4225804
Abstract: In a self-converging inline cathode ray tube assembly having a convergence electrode with a flat base and a central and two outer apertures formed for passage of electron beams, a pair of substantially flat sheets of ferromagnetic material having a substantially U-shaped configuration are disposed in mirror-image relationship intermediate the central aperture and each one of the outer apertures with the open portion of the U-shaped configuration directed toward the outer apertures whereby the deflection field of the electron beam passing through the central aperture is relatively strengthened and the deflection fields of the electron beams passing through the outer apertures are relatively weakened to provide an enhanced vertical and horizontal scanning raster for the cathode ray tube.
