Publication number: 20110163957Abstract: A joystick biased to return its stick to a neutral position and with compensation of the force applied by the biasing. The joystick has a stick that is moveable in relation to a base at least in rotation around two axes and biasing element mounted between said base and a movable element acting on said stick, tending to return said stick to a neutral position. The joystick further comprises compensator, mounted between the base and the movable element, and applying on the latter a force to compensate at least partially the force applied by the biasing, at least when said stick is located in the vicinity of said neutral position.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2011Publication date: July 7, 2011Applicant: Guillemot Corporation S.A.Inventor: Jean-Yves Jaouen

Publication number: 20100173711Abstract: The invention relates to Hall effect joysticks, and accessories incorporating a Hall effect joystick of a smaller scale. The Hall effect joystick includes a handle which can be moved in relation to a base, in rotation along at least two axes. Said rotation is ensured by way of at least one ball joint including two ball joint elements of roughly the same radius, namely a head and a cup, one being able to pivot around the center of the other. A first of said ball joint elements is fixed in relation to said base and features an opening into which penetrates an extension of said handle, and a second of said ball joint elements is attached to said handle. The extension of said handle includes, in proximity to its lower extremity, at least one sensor and/or at least one magnet of a Hall effect movement detection set.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 4, 2010Publication date: July 8, 2010Applicant: Guillemot Corporation S.A.Inventor: Jean-Yves Jaouen

Patent number: 6378826Abstract: The present invention concerns a controller for use with racing games and simulations running on a personal computer which includes a specially adapted attachment mechanism for desktop mounting. A particular embodiment of the controller includes a housing for removably attaching the controller to a desktop and a rotatable steering wheel mounted to the housing for manipulating the game object. An clamping assembly is received in the housing. An adjustable arm is pivotally connected to the clamping assembly and includes a substantially curved bridging portion and a distal end, the bridging portion extending to an underside of the desktop such that the distal end opposes an extension of the housing on an upper side of the desktop. The clamping assembly binds the desktop between the arm and the housing. A first embodiment of the clamping assembly includes a retention tube received in the housing having a first end and a threaded second end. A clamp is pivotally connected to the retention tube first end.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1998Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Guillemot CorporationInventors: David R. Knaub, Philip A. Patent number: 6270415Abstract: The invention uses the conventional PC game port as a port for a digital game input device, employing a Digital Game Port (DGP) protocol which uses the four discrete or button lines and a single analog line (one of four) on the conventional game board to form a dual serial port. Data from a DGP control device is packetized with each packet consisting of 13 bytes of data. The packets or blocks are then grouped into frames. A frame consists of two blocks of data. A total of two frames are transmitted to the driver for each driver request. The 13-byte data block is divided between six one byte analog values and four bytes of digital data, with three bytes that identify and define the device. This device definition and identification is unique. By sending the device identification and configuration to the driver, the driver can determine not only the presence of the device but also very specific aspects of the device.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1998Date of Patent: August 7, 2001Assignee: Guillemot CorporationInventors: Robert L.
