  • Patent number: 4449714
Abstract: A method for repairing turbine engine seals and a product manufactured in accordance with the method are provided. A worn or damaged honeycomb seal is removed from a backing plate together with a portion of the surface of the plate. The plate is restored to substantially its original thickness by a low pressure plasma spraying operation which may be followed by further machining to arrive at the required plate thickness. A new seal is then brazed thereon. The finished product will include the backing plate, a low pressure plasma sprayed coated surface, and a honeycomb seal brazed to the coated surface.

  • Patent number: 4395290
Abstract: A process for the production of cement raw mix which takes into account variations which may occur in the raw materials being introduced into the raw mix, particularly such variations which occur in the limestone. The process disclosed involves the periodic adjustment in the estimated chemical composition of the raw materials used to produce the raw mix in response to the degree of divergence between the actual proportions (W.sub.i) of the raw materials mixed and the "theoretical" proportions (T.sub.i) which theoretically would have generated the raw mix that was produced over the previous time interval. Based upon the revised estimated chemical compositions, the desired characteristics of the raw mix over the next specific subsequent interval are reselected to adjust the overall chemical composition of the raw mix towards the overall desired characteristics, while maintaining continuity in the raw mix being produced and avoiding undesirable fluctuations in the composition.

  • Patent number: 4332593
Abstract: Mine run coal is pulverized and the extended surfaces of the coal particles are rendered hydrophobic and oilophilic by a chemical bonding and graft polymerization reaction with a water insoluble organic polymerizable monomer under peroxidation influence in a predominantly water reaction medium. The mineral ash present in the coal and particularly the iron pyrites remains hydrophilic and is separated from the polymeric organic surface bonded coal product in a water washing step wherein the washed coal floats on and is recovered from the water phase and the ash is removed with the separated wash water in a critical wash step.Excess water is removed from the beneficiated hydrophobic surface-altered coal product mechanically. The hydrophobic and oilophilic organic polymeric surface bonded coating about the coal particles is fortified by inclusion of additional unbound free fatty acids by further small additions thereof.

  • Patent number: 4188617
Abstract: A system for providing digital data representative of a selected analog signal on the data lines of a programmable controller using a central processing unit. The system employs a conversion circuit which converts the input analog signal to digital data on output data terminals upon receipt of a conversion signal simultaneously with an analog signal and which creates a completion signal when the conversion is completed. The system can use at least two analog inputs that receive at least two analog conditions and convert a selected one of the analog conditions to an analog signal. Upon actuation of one of the input modules, the selected analog signal of the selected module is directed to the conversion circuit. After conversion, the conversion completion signal of a conversion circuit then deactivates the actuated input module for the next conversion cycle.

  • Patent number: 4131848
Abstract: A digital device for detecting a metal object in the field of influence of a detector loop controlled by an oscillator which device creates a series of counting intervals and counts pulses during the intervals. The magnitude of the count during an interval is then indicative of metal detected by the loop. The count of a prior counting interval is stored and compared with the count of the next interval to determine whether or not there has been a detection. In this type of device there is provided an improvement wherein the magnitude of the counts stored during an interval is used to change the length of subsequent counting intervals. This maintains a generally high count magnitude for the counting interval to improve the sensitivity of the detecting device.
