Patents Assigned to Gulf & Western Manufacturing Co.
  • Patent number: 4597033
Abstract: A lightweight emergency lighting system capable of arrangement into various subjective configurations is provided. A housing member supports a plurality of individual lighting elements mounted on a common semi-rigid bus bar. The upper configuration of the housing members is capable of a directional transmission of light towards a predetermined field angle, while the lower configuration is adaptable for mounting the lighting elements. The upper housing member can have an interior surface of a prismatic configuration to provide a refraction and reflection of light in combination with the exterior surface. The lighting elements, such as L.E.D.'s, can be excited through a pulsing circuit to maximize the light output while conserving power from an auxiliary battery source.

  • Patent number: 4444331
Abstract: A closure assembly is provided for high pressure applications. It includes a hollow cylindrical member having a beveled end for welding to a pressure vehicle and a threaded end for receiving a cap. An annular projection extends from the threaded end and includes a O-ring for sealing purposes. The projection has relatively thin walls which allow it to dilate under pressure and provide an excellent seal.

  • Patent number: 4418559
Abstract: A roll coolant distribution header is provided. The header includes a binary valve assembly comprising a plurality of individually mounted two-stage solenoid valves. The valves extend through a plenum chamber filled with coolant. Spray nozzles project through one side of the chamber. The solenoids extend through the opposite side of the chamber and are sealed therefrom. Coolant is introduced into the chamber through its hollow trunnions from mounting/distributor blocks. The mounting/distributor blocks are fitted with coolant pipe connections.

  • Patent number: 4358293
Abstract: Coal-aqueous mixture characterized by having high coal solids concentrations are provided. Selected polyalkyleneoxide nonionic surfactants are employed at low concentrations to disperse coal in an aqueous carrier medium to coal solids levels of 70% by weight, or higher. The selected polyalkyleneoxide nonionic surfactants are characterized by having a high molecular weight and a hydrophilic portion comprised of at least about 100 repeating units of ethylene oxide.

  • Patent number: 4340327
Abstract: A tool support is provided for removably supporting a twist drill of high speed steel and a pair of indexable cutter blades of tungsten carbide. The cutter blades are triangular and provide three cutting edges about the periphery thereof, and the cutter blades are removably mounted on the tool support to enable selective indexing of the cutting edges to a cutting position. The cutting edge to be used is axially and radially stabilized in the cutting position by engaging edge and bottom portions of the blade in a pocket provided on the tool support. The tool support includes a channel adjacent each of the cutter blades defined by walls extending axially of the tool support in planes parallel to the tool axis and perpendicular to one another to optimize the available area for chip removal, and the entrance ends of the channels are provided with relief surfaces to promote the feeding of chips into the channels.
