    Abstract: Thermoplastic materials are welded by preheating by conduction and probably damaging the adjacent areas of the surfaces to above the melting point of the thermoplastic material using a suitable heated contact member; depositing a continuous layer of molten thermoplastic material over the adjacent preheated areas of the two surfaces; and allowing the deposited material and the material of the surfaces to solidify.
