Abstract: A process and device for the input and carrying away of smoking rods or cooking rods to and from a station for the automatic suspension of sausages provided with loops on a rod which in turn is tightly chucked at one end works as follows: the rods are first brought out of a storage area one after the other in horizontal arrangement into a readiness position. Then one rod is tightly chucked there and is fed by a horizontal movement to the loading station; finally the loaded rod is picked up at both ends and fed in the same direction as before to a holding station, in which a number of loaded rods are collected for transfer by being moved onto a smoking or cooking wagon. The process is carried out nearly without dead time, and is accomplished by an operator who remains for the most part independent of the filling and suspending cycle.

Abstract: A bellows-like hollow member formed of gathered tubular sheathing material, for processing, especially as a peel-skin for the production of small sausages, produced as follows: polypropylene with copolymers is extruded in a smooth foil of three inseparable layers, of which the middle layer is stronger and the two outside layers have a lower melting point. The foil is then stretched to increase its strength, and is formed into a tube with a lengthwise seam along its entire length, formed by overlapping and consolidation of its lengthwise edges. Finally, the tube is gathered bellows-like forming a plurality of folds and forming hollow member, and is simultaneously rotated around its axis so that the lengthwise seam produces a helical path. The tubular sheathing which is obtained by this gathering is of inexpensive material, can be easily peeled from the boiled meat emulsion, can be used without difficulty in sausage machines, and is not sensitive during storage to moisture and high temperatures.
Abstract: During the axial shirring of tubular casings into shirred strands while the material is inflated with air under overpressure, oil is intermittently injected without propellant air against the inside of the casing, so as to lubricate the inner wall of the casing. This eliminates the need for the costly construction required to provide for the discharge of excess air and oil needed with the known continuous oil injection through two-component nozzle with propellant air, and at the same time it insures a more uniform distribution of oil with reduced oil consumption. The injection nozzle is a single compound nozzle which is connected via electromagnetic valves to a conventional injection pump.
Abstract: A tubular mandrel device for longitudinally shirring flexible tube materials such as used in making sausage casings and the like. A tubular mandrel is formed by a plurality of parallel spring elements secured at one end and distributed in a cylindrical path around the axis of the mandrel. A control member moves axially within the tubular mandrel. Cam members fixed to the inside of the spring elements of the tubular mandrel cooperatively engage raised and lowered surfaces on the control member such that by moving the control member axially, the spring elements of the tubular mandrel are expanded outwardly.
