Abstract: A kit is provided for assembly of a mattress supporting base comprising: a frame having a top mattress supporting platform, the platform being supported by a plurality of spaced apart longitudinal stringers, each stringer having a series of longitudinally spaced apart openings, the openings being transversely aligned thus defining a series of continuous passageways through said stringers across the assembled width of the frame; a plurality of transverse beams each engagable in an associated one of said passageways; and a plurality of leg means, downwardly protruding from each of said beams.
Abstract: A collapsible bed base is disclosed to support a bed mattress. The bed base comprises a foldable peripheral frame, removable cross-support joist members extending across the frame and removable top decking panels supported by the frame and across-support members for supporting a mattress thereon. The foldable peripheral support frame assumes a rectangular configuration in an open position. The frame members at the opposed ends of the frame have a hinge in their center. These frame members at the ends of the frame are also hinged to frame members forming the sides of the frame. The frame members at the ends of the frame can be bent inwardly about their centers so as to draw the side frame members together into a collapsed position.
Abstract: A waterbed is disclosed in which a waterbed mattress comprising a fluid-filled envelope is supported on a bed bottom within a recess formed by an upholstered, peripheral frame. A mattress mat has a top portion extending over the mattress with edge portions extending downward between the mattress and the frame to be secured at its lower edge to the bed bottom. With the lower edge of the mat secured to the bed bottom, tendencies of the mat to come off or be pulled up during use are eliminated.
Abstract: In a waterbed mattress a novel wave dampening batt of unwoven polypropylene fibers bonded together with an ethylene acrylic acid binder so as to provide the resultant batt with a specific gravity in the range of 0.9 to 0.999. Polyester fibers may advantageously be mixed with the polypropylene fibers.
Abstract: A damping structure is disclosed to float freely within the envelope of a waterbed mattress. The damping structure comprises a bottom panel of flexible sheet material with a number of tubular structure extending upwardly therefrom. Each tubular structure is coupled to the bottom panel with a portion of the bottom panel closing the bottom end of the tubular structure. The tubular structure has side walls and is closed at a top end by a top panel. The top panels are buoyant and float the tubular structures upwardly so as to suspend the bottom panel spaced above the bottom sheet of the waterbed envelope. Ports are provided through the top panels, side walls and bottom end of the tubular structures and serve to permit fluid flow into and out of the tubular structures to assist in facilitating fluid displacement within the mattress and dampen wave motion therein. The ports through the side walls are open to permit flow even when the mattress is compressed in use.
