  • Patent number: 11105431
Abstract: A valve having an inlet, exhaust, control port, and diaphragm. The diaphragm moves between an open position, in which the inlet and exhaust are in fluid communication, and a closed position, in which the diaphragm blocks fluid from flowing between the inlet and the exhaust. The diaphragm moves from the closed position to the open position when an inlet force due to pressure at the inlet is greater than the sum of the biasing force and a control port force due to pressure at the control port. The valve is operable to automatically drain contaminants from a vehicle air reservoir when the vehicle's emergency brakes are set. To reduce noise, the diaphragm of the valve is preferably in tension when in the closed position, and/or the diaphragm opens a limited distance when in the open position so that a back pressure is generated at the inlet.

  • Patent number: 10626939
Abstract: A spring brake actuator having a push rod plate and a diaphragm. A rim projects from the diaphragm for engaging a housing containing the push rod plate. A sidewall is connected to the rim, which is connected to a bottom surface, forming an outer diameter of the diaphragm. Flanges, perpendicular to the diaphragm, extend from the diaphragm forming an inner diameter for which the push rod plate is inserted into. An adhesive is placed between the diaphragm and the push rod plate, wherein the adhesive maintains an attachment and a seal between the diaphragm and the push rod plate keeping the diaphragm and the push rod plate in line with each other.

  • Patent number: 10493972
Abstract: A pneumatic brake actuator has a spring brake actuator with spring and spring brake pressure chambers, and a service brake actuator with service brake pressure and pushrod chambers. A control valve has a seal that is moveable between an open position and a closed position for regulating fluid flow between the spring chamber and service brake pressure chamber. A first surface of the seal is in fluid communication with the service brake pressure chamber and a second surface of the seal is in fluid communication with a valve chamber that is not in fluid communication with the service brake pressure chamber or spring chamber. The seal moves between its open and closed positions based on a pressure in the service brake pressure chamber. Movement of the seal is not dependent on the rate of flow of fluid between the spring chamber and the service brake pressure chamber.

  • Patent number: 10391996
Abstract: An air dryer assembly with manifold system provides increased drying capacity for pressurized air systems, such as vehicle braking systems. A manifold connected to the supply ports of two adjacent air dryers allows parallel flow of air through the separate air dryers. An identical manifold connects to the delivery ports of the two air dryers to combine the clean, dry air from the delivery ports. Similar manifolds connect the control and purge ports of the dryers to allow simultaneous regeneration of the desiccant canisters. An assembly combining two air dryers, two pretreatment units, and manifolds connecting the supply, delivery, control, and purge ports of two air dryers is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10391997
Abstract: A pneumatic brake actuator has a housing and a divider that divides the housing into a spring chamber containing a spring and a pressure chamber. The divider has an opening that receives an end of an actuator tube. A bearing that is positioned within the opening in the divider is joined to both the divider and the actuator tube. A caging bolt has a first end positioned within the actuator tube and extends from the first end through openings in the bearing and housing to a second end positioned outside of the housing. The connection between the bearing, divider and actuator tube contains the spring within the housing in the event that the housing and/or divider fails. The divider can be a piston or a diaphragm and pressure plate. The bearing can be joined to either of the divider and actuator tube with threads and/or by welding.

  • Patent number: 9834192
Abstract: The present invention provides a system that automatically purges contaminants from an air pressure tank when the emergency brakes of a vehicle are set. In one preferred embodiment, the system comprises a valve comprising an input port, an exhaust port, and a control port. The input port is in fluid connection with a drain on the pressurized air tank, and the control port is in fluid connection with an emergency brake line of the vehicle. When the emergency brakes are engaged, the valve is open such that the input port and the exhaust port are in fluid connection operable for air and contaminants from the pressurized air tank to be expelled from the pressurized air tank through the exhaust port. When the emergency brakes are not engaged, the valve is closed such that the input port and exhaust port are not in fluid connection.
