    Abstract: A new method that enables parallel amplification of nucleic sequences from a complex source is disclosed. The amplification is compartmentized into microdroplets by porous-walled hollow glass microspheres and subjected to PCR thermal cycling or isothermal amplification. The rigid wall of the glass microspheres allows very simple and conventional manipulation of the amplification products for downstream application such as sequencing or detection of copy number of specific sequences in a complex sample.
