Abstract: A non-blocking always visible display application is provided to copy and save first pixel values corresponding to a first display screen area, blend the copied first pixel values with second pixel values corresponding to a non-blocking always visible display to generate third pixel values, and replace the original first pixel values with the third pixel values to effectuate display of the non-blocking always visible display. In one embodiment, the application further monitors for display operations that impact the first display screen area, and re-blend accordingly. In one embodiment, the re-blending and replacement are advantageously delayed. In another embodiment, the application further intercepts and causes cursor events to be handled properly, based at least in part on a current blending bias between the non-blocking always visible display, and the underlying display windows.

Abstract: An email program/service is enhanced to facilitate one or more email viewing related security measures. These viewing related security measures may include viewer confirmation and/or viewing limitation. The email program/service is enhanced to enable an email sender to select one or more of these viewing security measures to protect an email being prepared for transmission. The email program/service is further enhanced to facilitate viewing of an email having at least one of these viewing security measures selected, permitting viewing only if the security requirements are met.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for allowing a user device to avoid undesired state transitions when the user is present but not performing activities is provided. The method provides for detection of activity in the proximity of the user device by monitoring for sounds via an audio input device connected to the user device. The method further provides for analysis of the detected audio signals on the audio input to determine if the sound detected matches a voice reference sample of the user of the user device. If the detected sound matches the existing voice reference sample of the user, the method provides for simulation of activities on the user device, thereby preventing the user device from performing an undesired state transition, and in turn pre-empting resource saving operations.

Abstract: An online purchaser subscribes for substitute delivery address service with a delivery address service. The online purchaser provides the delivery address service with his/her mailing address. As part of the subscription service, the delivery address service provides the online purchaser with one or more substitute delivery addresses for use to engage in online purchase transaction. As a result, online businesses from which the online purchaser purchases goods attempt to deliver the purchases goods to the purchaser at the substitute delivery address or addresses. The delivery address service facilitates redirection and delivery of the purchased goods to the purchaser, thereby protecting the privacy of the purchaser's mailing address. In an alternate embodiment, the beneficiary may be another subscriber designated as recipient by the purchaser.

Abstract: In the scaled recovery system of the present invention, clients delay for an additional period of time prior to attempting to access a previously unavailable resource that has since become available, rather than accessing the shared resource at full speed once an initial back off interval is over. Through the continual increment and decrement of client back off intervals, the present invention provides dynamic tuning of overall system load in the case of overloaded shared resources.

Abstract: A privilege level re-mapping mechanism is provided to a processor to re-map privilege levels. The re-mapping mechanism is placed in between the control registers and the privilege checking circuitry, to enable the re-mapping to be dynamically performed in real time prior to privilege checking. The novel dynamic re-mapping of privilege levels prior to privilege checking enables tasks to be executed with relative privilege level relationships that are different from what were nominally assigned to the tasks. In one embodiment, complementary selection mechanism is also provided to enable the novel dynamic re-mapping to be conditionally performed.

Abstract: An enhanced email program/service is provided to facilitate provisioning for a user an expanded addressee ordered listing of emails including expanded listing entries for emails addressed to one or more addressees of interest as secondary and/or member addressees, in addition to listing entries where the one or more addressees of interest are addressed as primary addressees. In various embodiments, the enhancements include facilities that enable the user to easily request for the expanded listing, from an addressee ordered or non-addressee ordered listing of emails, with or without explicitly specifying the addressee or addressees of interest. In response, the email program/service provisions the expanded listing, including the re-ordering if necessary, accordingly. As a result, the user may easily obtain a listing of all emails addressed to one or more addressees of interest, independent of the position and/or manner the addressees of interest are addressed.

Abstract: A computing device is provided with a number of programming instructions to cause display of first execution results of a first set of applications in a first plane of a metaphoric desktop, and display of second execution results of a second set of applications in a second plane of the metaphoric desktop. In one embodiment, the programming instructions are further designed to morph the metaphoric desktop from one plane to another. In one embodiment, the second set of applications are on-line applications, and the programming instructions are designed to cause the metaphoric desktop to morph from the first plane to the second plane when the computing device is being connected on line; and cause the metaphoric desktop to morph back to the first plane in response to a user request to return to the first plane.

Abstract: A mobile client device, on behalf of a user, is equipped to submit an identity of the user to a messaging service, including the user's current location. Once the messaging service receives the identity of the user, and the user's current location, the messaging service, in response, selects one or more recipients remotely disposed by the mobile client device and the messaging service to receive the user's current location, based at least in part on the identity of the user. The recipient receives the the user's current location for information purposes. In one embodiment, the identity of the user, in addition the user's current location, is also transmitted to the selected one or more recipients. As a result, users, in particular, youths, are able to notify to recipients, such as their parents/guardians, and each other of their whereabouts simply, efficiently and effectively. In other embodiments, the submission is triggered based on bio-metric data of the user, and includes the triggering bio-metric data.

Abstract: An online service provider is equipped to receive a request from a client to access a subscribed online service of a subscriber at the online service provider. Comprising the request is a globally unique identifier (GUID) of the subscriber. Once the request is received, the online service provider, determines if the GUID is associated with the subscriber, and if the GUID is associated with the subscriber, the online service provider facilitates access to the subscribed online service of the subscriber. As a result, a user is able to access online services without having to manage several a logon Id and password pair. In one embodiment, the GUID is also caused to be stored in an email with an email service provider. The novel storage enables the subscriber to access his/her subscribed services from another location, or even after the subscriber has reconfigured the original location.

Abstract: A recursive scheme is employed to compress image data, wherein areas of a pixel grid corresponding to the image data are divided into increasingly smaller triangles based on the level of detail contained within each triangle. Data is stored defining each of the triangles and actual/predicted component values corresponding to pixels within each triangle. For each triangle, a set of predicted component values are determined, based on actual component values at the vertices of the triangle or actual component values on or proximate to the edges of the triangle. The predicted component values for the pixels are compared with the corresponding actual component values to see if a similarity threshold is met. If met, the processing of a current triangle is complete and the processing of a next triangle begins. If not, the current triangle is divided, and the foregoing process is then repeated. Texture mapping may also be applied.

Abstract: A telephone is equipped to enable a user to enter a dialing prefix, an append indicator, and a dialing request to quickly place a call to a callee from a location where calling the callee requires the dialing prefix. In response, the telephone places the call to the callee using the dialing prefix and a last placed call number. In an alternate embodiment, a previous dialed number may be used instead. In yet other embodiments, the telephone detects for a dialing error, using voice recognition technology, and either re-places the call or facilitates re-placement of the call in a corrected manner. In one embodiment, the telephone is a wireless mobile phone; in another, the telephone is a wired or cordless telephone handset.

Abstract: A main document and referenced frame documents to be rendered by a browser for a display page are parsed by the browser to identify where text and graphics objected are to be located. The location of a cursor that is used by the user to interact with the browser is tracked, and the object nearest to the cursor is determined. This object is then rendered prior to the rendering of other objects in the display page that would normally be rendered prior to the nearest object under conventional rendering schemes. Optionally, objects related to the nearest objects may be rendered the same time, and various other objects may be rendered or partially rendered while data corresponding to the nearest object is being received by the browser.
