    Abstract: A check valve comprises a valve housing defining a valve opening, a pair of mounting posts arranged on opposed sides of the valve opening and a hinge pin mounted between the mounting posts. A pair of flapper elements are pivotably mounted to the hinge pin for rotation relative to the housing between an open position in which they permit fluid flow through the valve opening and a closed position in which they prevent fluid flow through the valve opening. The valve further comprises a stop mounted between the mounting posts above the hinge pin and extending across the valve opening such that the flapper elements will contact the stop in their open positions. The stop is a coil spring.

    Abstract: A component for use in a ram air turbine actuator includes a lock bolt extending along a centerline with the lock bolt being axially movable between a stowed position and a deployed position and a plurality of rollers that are radially outward from the centerline and guided by the lock bolt. The component also includes a slider radially between at least a portion of the lock bolt and a piston rod with the slider being axially movable between a stop position and the deployed position and up-lock wedges supported by the piston rod. The actuator becomes locked in the stowed position when the lock bolt and slider move axially within the piston rod and a cylinder to position the rollers to push the up-lock wedges radially outward into an aperture and prevent the lock bolt, slider, and cylinder from axial movement.

By combining the actual propeller blade angle, the min and max angles for speed governing, and the PLA signal, the state of the propeller speed governor is determined.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a fuel system for an engine including a water supply source for providing water and a fuel supply source for providing fuel. A centrifugal pump is fluidly connected to the water and fuel supply sources, respectively at water and fuel inputs. The pump receives the water and the fuel from the inputs and produces a homogeneous mixture without using other pumps or mixing devices. A metering device is arranged between the pump and one of the supply sources, preferably the water supply source, to produce the desired ratio of water and fuel. The speed of the pump is varied to deliver the desired total volume and pressure of fuel and water to the engine through the pump output. The water metering device may be closed to deliver only fuel to the engine during special conditions such as engine startup and rapid load dumps. Operation of the system is simplified because only one pump and metering device is used.

    Abstract: A wind power energy system includes a compression system that produces pressurized air with a first temperature that is received by a storage system at a second temperature that is approximately equal to the first temperature. The wind power energy system is insulated with about ten centimeters of glass-wool insulation to create an essentially adiabatic system. The pressurized air is utilized by a generator and generate electricity for a power grid. The generator also includes a combustion engine input. A control system detects fluctuation in wind power and commands the combustion engine to provide an appropriate amount of input energy to the generator such that the sum of the wind energy and combustion engine inputs produces a predetermined amount of electrical output by the generator.

Such a configuration makes it less likely that the cooling liquid leaking from the fluid connector 14 drips onto the electric connector 12.

A second portion of the recess is radially spaced from the ceramic shaft and provides a controlled gap within which a braze alloy is maintained. In one example, the second portion has an axial length that is more than twice a radial depth of the second portion. In another example, a transition surface between the first and second portions of the recess has a linear profile.

The stator, rotor, and rotor shaft bearings are all possible components that may be submerged. The cooling fluid floods the stator, rotor, and/or bearings to cool the components. The fluid may have a high electrical resistance to isolate the motor components from any contact with flammable gasses as well as prevent arcs or sparks. The cavity holding the fluid also ensures continuous lubrication by preventing fluid from leaking or evaporating out of the motor.

The controller combines a first pattern of pulses with a second pattern of pulses phase shifted by an amount based on the desired fundamental voltage magnitude to create a third pattern of pulses. The controller applies a phase shift to the third pattern of pulses based on the desired fundamental voltage phase. The controller supplies switching control waveforms to active components within the multi-level controller based on the phase shifted third pattern of pulses such that the desired fundamental voltage magnitude and phase is generated and selected harmonics are minimized.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an air generation unit (AGU) including a pressurized air source, such as an engine providing pressurized air. First and second air cycle machine (ACM) are fluidly connected to the pressurized air source for receiving the air. A heat exchanger interconnects the first and second ACMs. The heat exchanger mechanically supports the first and second ACMs by flexible isolators, which accommodates the thermo expansion of the heat exchanger through out the operation of the AGU. The heat exchanger includes a primary heat exchanger that cools the air from the air source. The ACMs each include a compressor receiving the air from the primary heat exchanger to provide compressed air. The compressed air is sent to a secondary heat exchanger to be cooled. The compressed air is passed through a condenser and a water collector to remove moisture from the air for being sent to a first turbine.

    Abstract: An improved assembly for use in an in-line starter valve. A flexible material system in the form of a flexible belt is used to translate motion from a manually operable wrench shaft to a piston rod in order to render an in-line starter valve to a closed, partially opened, or an extreme opened position. When the wrench shaft is manually rotated, tension is imparted on the flexible band which, in turn, translates tension to a piston rod which then travels longitudinally resulting in the opening or closing of the in-line starter valve. An index mark on a handle of the wrench shaft indicates the closed, partially opened, or extreme opened position of the in-line starter valve. The use of the flexible belt affords greater durability, less weight, and less costly production than the prior art assemblies.

The surfaces provide four corners such that the protrusions are arranged on opposite corners from one another to create a pressure differential between the first and second sealing surfaces.
