Patent number: 8025501Abstract: A gas burner for use in a furnace and a method of burning gas in a furnace, especially but not exclusively a process furnace used in an oil cracking or refining process. The gas burner comprises two passageways with adjacent outlets. The first passage way is in fluid communication with a source of pressurized fuel gas and has an aperture through which recirculated flue gas can enter the first passageway and the second passageway is in fluid communication with a source of air. In operation, fuel gas is injected into the first passageway and recirculated flue gas is thereby drawn into the first passageway so that it mixes with the fuel gas. Fuel gas is partially combusted and a mixture of partially combusted fuel gas and recirculated flue gas flows up the first passageway and comes into contact with air from the second passageway and combusts.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2008Date of Patent: September 27, 2011Assignee: Hamworthy Combustion Engineering LimitedInventors: Roger Lanary, Brian Foster

Publication number: 20110207064Abstract: A flare stack comprises an upwardly extending gas discharge duct 10 and a pilot burner 16 operative at an burner location near the open top end of the duct 10 to ignite gas discharged by way of the duct. Atmospheric samples from the burner location are delivered to a monitoring station 20 remote from the duct 10 and at ground level 12. A sensor at the monitoring station 20 is responsive to a parameter of the sample indicative of combustion at the burner location such as increased CO2 or NOx or decreased O2. An igniter is operatively associated with the sensor and arranged to light the pilot burner 16 automatically if the sensor does not detect said parameter in the sample.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 22, 2010Publication date: August 25, 2011Applicant: HAMWORTHY COMBUSTION ENGINEERING LIMITEDInventors: Cesar Augusto Salani, Giuseppe Eriberto Cioria, Nigel Peter Webley

Publication number: 20080053349Abstract: An incinerator 20 for disposing of boil-off gas on an LNG carrier comprises a combustion chamber 42 wherein the boil-off gas admitted at 40 is burned in the presence of combustion air admitted at 44, producing a flame 46 and combustion products C. Dilution air A is delivered into the combustion chamber 42 and mixed with the combustion products C to produce a diluted mixture M. The combustion chamber 42 has an inner wall 48 and an outer wall 50 together defining a first passage 52 through which the dilution air A is passed before being mixed with the combustion products C, whereby the dilution air A cools the incinerator 20. The dilution air A in the first passage 52 also provides a thermally insulting layer limiting radial heat transmission from the combustion chamber 42. A flue 58 is configured and arranged so that the flame 46 is enclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 14, 2005Publication date: March 6, 2008Applicant: HAMWORTHY COMBUSTION ENGINEERING LIMITEDInventors: Simon O'Connor, Richard Price, Nigel Webley, Mark Boss
