Abstract: A universal joint to transmit force from a tool to a workpiece. A driver attachable to the tool has a spherical cavity. A plurality of inwardly facing protrusions are formed in the cavity. Each protrusion has a pair of conical sidewalls separated by an angled ramp. A driven socket has a sphere formed on one end. The sphere has a plurality of channels. The sphere is received in the spherical cavity in the driver and the protrusions in the cavity are received in the channels. The drive webs forming the channel engage the protrusions when the driver is angularly offset from the driven socket.

Abstract: A replaceable tip for a tool. A locking pin is disposed on a transverse opening in the end of the tool. A sleeve having a cammed surface formed interiorly is disposed over the end of the tool with the ends of the locking pin contacting the cammed surface. The replaceable tip has a locking keeper which engages the locking pin. Rotation of the sleeve in opposite directions locks or unlocks the locking keeper to the locking pin to allow retention or removal of the tip. In an alternate embodiment the sleeve has opposite spring fingers which contact the ends of the locking pin.

Abstract: A ratchet wrench has a through cavity in which a reversing lever is disposed. The reversing lever has a pair of protruding lips formed thereon opposite from one another. A cooperating ledge is formed on the head in the cavity and on the pawl which is adjacent to the reversing lever. A spring-loaded pusher is disposed longitudinally in a blind bore in the reversing lever and the pusher engages a pocket in the pawl. A cover plate is disposed on a shelf recessed on the bottom of the wrench and spaced apart from the reversing lever.

Abstract: A tool rack assembly includes a board and a tool rack detachably mounted to the board. In another embodiment, a tool try-on device is provided including a board and a rotating member rotatably mounted to the board. The rotating member is engageable with an end of a tool. The rotating member moves in a direction transverse to a plane on which the board lies when the tool engaged with the rotating member is turned.

Abstract: A process for making ratchet wheels includes a step of providing a work with a first end and a second end, a step of punching the work by means of a punch so as to define a large recess through the second end, a step of cutting away the first end of the work, a step of defining two annular grooves in a periphery of the work and a step of forming a plurality of teeth on the work. The process may include, before the step of cutting away the first end of the work, a step of punching the work in order to define a small recess with a diameter smaller than that of the large recess, a step of punching the work so as to define an opening with a diameter smaller than that of the small recess wherein the opening extends through the first end of the work. The process may include a step of defining a shallow recess in the second end of the work before the step of defining the large recess.

Abstract: A reversible ratchet wrench includes a handle having a driving head defining a driving chamber, a receiving chamber defined in the handle, a retaining recess defined in the driving chamber and connecting to the receiving chamber, and a driving member secured in the driving chamber and provided with a plurality of tooth-shaped first retaining portions. A direction control device includes a direction control member rotatably mounted in the receiving chamber, a retaining member pivotally mounted in the retaining recess and having a first side provided with a plurality of tooth-shaped second retaining portions meshing with the tooth-shaped first retaining portions, a pressing member rotated by the direction control member and slidably rested on a second side of the retaining member for pivoting the retaining member, and an elastic member urging the pressing member on the second side of the retaining member.

Abstract: A toolbox has a tool-receiving plate received therein. The tool-receiving plate includes a number of tool-receiving grooves in both sides thereof. The toolbox includes a first casing and a second casing that is pivotally connected to the first casing at one end thereof. Each of the first and second casings has an opening for viewing and displaying purposes. Glass is fitted in each opening to avoid theft.

Abstract: A method of making a recess in a drive socket and the like includes forming a groove to extend along a face of an elongated drive opening in a metal workpiece from one end of its drive opening, moving material from the surface of the groove to increase its depth from its outer end along only a portion of its length and gathering the material so moved from the groove surface to form a ledge between ends of the groove, whereby a recess is defined by the groove extending beyond the ledge. In addition, a female drive device for socket wrenches and the like is disclosed having an elongated drive opening, a groove longitudinally extending from one end of the drive opening along a face of the drive opening, and a ledge between ends of the groove. The ledge protrudes radially inwardly such that a recess is defined by the groove extending beyond the ledge for retaining a male drive member.

Abstract: An extension between a driving tool and a driven member which has a hollow body with external gear teeth on one end which is releasably retained in the driving tool. The second end of the body has internal teeth which cooperate with external teeth on the driven member. Also, in the second end of the body is a retaining ring to releasably retain the member to be driven. A sleeve is slidingly received in the body. The sleeve is longitudinally slidable within the body from a first position in which the sleeve is slid fully inwardly to eject the driven member and a second position in which the sleeve is slid outwardly from the body when the driven member is inserted.

Abstract: A ratchet wrench having the opening in the head formed from the top with the pawl being disposed adjacent to the gear within the opening. A retaining plate is disposed over the gear and pawl in the opening in the head. An aperture is formed in the cover plate aligned with a recess in the top of the pawl. A reversing lever with an offset tang is received in the aperture and engages the recess in the pawl. Alternate embodiments of the engagement of reversing lever with the pawl are disclosed. A quick release for sockets attached to the wrench is disclosed.
