Patents Assigned to Handle With Care, Inc.
  • Patent number: 6913020
Abstract: An apparatus, and method of use thereof, for storing, transporting and deploying multiple restraint system components is provided. The inventive apparatus consists of two trays composed of flexible materials. The first tray is configured for storing wrist and ankle restraint systems, the second tray, smaller than the first tray, includes a top-mounted compartment for storing a multi-point restraint connection system. The storage compartment of second tray is secured to the tray by releasable connectors, and is at least partially disengaged to receive the various components of the multi-point restraint connection system, and releasably secured thereafter. The connection system is stored in such a manner as to partially display a portion of each system component outside of the storage compartment, with each portion oriented toward its eventual deployment area once the second tray is placed on the structure on which the EDP will be restrained.

  • Patent number: 6901932
Abstract: An apparatus and method for rapidly restraining a person's limbs are disclosed. The inventive apparatus includes a pair of cuff modules, each with three rigid loops positioned on their outer surface, and a cuff interconnect having a flexible elongated body sized and configured to fit through the rigid loops, that is attached to one of the rigid loops on one of the cuff modules. When the cuff modules are applied to the person's limbs, the interconnect body is threaded through the other rigid loops and around the person's midsection, such that the interconnect body surrounds the person's midsection from front and back and forms two tension zones, one at each of the cuff modules to significantly restrict the range of motion of the person's first and second limbs. Optionally, the cuff modules may include releasable connectors to releasable connect to corresponding external stationary restraints.

  • Patent number: 6772764
Abstract: The transport and securing system of the present invention is utilized in conjunction with a wrist and ankle mechanical restraint system applied to a subject, which releasably secures the restrained subject to the transport and securing system, to easily and quickly transport the restrained subject and secure the subject to an ordinary bed, or any other stationary structure, without removing the subject's mechanical restraints. A instant release mechanism enables a single staff member to immediately disconnect the transport and securing system from the stationary structure so that the restrained subject may me quickly transported into another location without releasing the subject from the mechanical restraint system. The inventive transport and securing system includes optional releasable chest and stomach straps to supplement the mechanical restraint system. Alternately, the inventive transport and securing system may be configured to utilize an upper body protection and face shield system.

  • Patent number: 6755197
Abstract: The inventive apparatus and method of use thereof remedies at least some of the problems and dangers associated with applying restraint holds to violent and/or struggling persons by protecting restraining or escorting personnel from harm that may be inflicted on them by the target person during and after application of restraint holds (such as spitting and biting). The inventive protective apparatus advantageously comprises an collar (for example a cervical collar) that protects and stabilizes the person's neck and prevents neck injuries and head-butting, and a readily deployable face shield that attaches to the cervical collar and that prevents the person from spitting on and/or biting the staff members. The face shield may be permanently or releasably attached to the collar.

  • Patent number: 6725865
Abstract: An apparatus and method for restraining a person's limbs are disclosed. The inventive apparatus includes at least one cuff module for application to the person's limbs. An optional interconnect may be provided for each set of cuff modules. Each cuff module includes a flat flexible elongated body with two rigid loops positioned apart from each other on its upper surface, a resilient lining positioned along a portion of the lower surface of the cuff body, the resilient lining being optionally removable, a flat rigid element attached to one end of the cuff body, and a releasable attachment device positioned on portions of the top and bottom surfaces of the cuff body.

  • Patent number: 6360748
Abstract: An apparatus and method for assisting a first person in maintaining a safe restraining hold on a second person for extended period of time without danger of positional asphyxiation is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a first resilient pad with a receiving channel for receiving the first person's elbow and bottom flat surface having an extruded area positioned and configured to releasably attach to an additional stabilizing pad underneath so that the position of the apparatus may be optionally elevated above the floor surface. The first person initiates the restraining hold by manipulating the second person into a face-down prone position onto the floor surface, such that the first person is disposed along and above the second person. The first person completes the restraining hold when the first person's weight is distributed between the first person's knees and the first person's elbow such that the first persons elbow is proximal to a corresponding arm of the second person.

  • Patent number: 6273091
Abstract: An apparatus and method for assisting a first person in maintaining a safe restraining hold on a second person for extended period of time without danger of positional asphyxiation is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a resilient substantially hollow inverted cone with a wide open area top opening for receiving the first person's elbow and a smaller bottom flat surface attached to a perpendicular stabilizing pad of a predetermined thickness configured and positioned to enable the apparatus to rest in a stable position on a floor surface, and is further configured to accept additional pads underneath so that the position of the apparatus may be optionally elevated above the floor surface. A resilient loop for assisting retention of at least the first person's elbow in the cone is attached to two points on opposing outside surfaces of the cone.
