Abstract: A locking balance shoe (42) for a sash window counterbalance arrangement includes at least one moveable locking abutment element (58,60). A cam (44) of the balance shoe (42) is moveable to operatively move and urge the at least one moveable locking abutment element (58,60) from the first unlocked position to a second engaged locking position. The at least one moveable locking abutment element (58,60) is diagonally movable and is moved diagonally by the cam (44) and in the second engaged position the at least one moveable locking abutment element (58,60) engages and abuts against and within a corner region of the window jamb channel (32) between a pair (11,13) of walls of the window jamb channel (32) to frictionally lock the balance shoe (42) in place.
