Abstract: A cladless anilox sleeve mountable on a mandrel suitable for commercial use as an anilox roll in flexographic printing. The anilox sleeve of the present invention basically comprises a cylindrical body of a predetermined axial length, the cylindrical body having inner and outer cylindrical peripheral surfaces and end faces at opposite ends of the cylindrical body extending radially between the inner and outer cylindrical peripheral surfaces. The cylindrical body is formed substantially entirely of non-metallic material and without an exterior metallic cladding thereon. Each end face of the cylindrical body has a circular recess formed therein at a radial spacing from the inner and outer cylindrical peripheral surfaces, and a metal ring is secured in each circular recess to promote maintenance of cylindricality of the cylindrical body. Each metal ring extends axially beyond the respective end face for deterring damaging contact therewith.
Abstract: A manually operable proofing apparatus for performing sample test printings comprises a table for supporting a printable substrate, a carriage supported on the table for reciprocal movement along the printing surface, and a proofer assembly comprising an anilox roller for applying a printing material to the substrate. The carriage and the proofer assembly have matable quick-connect elements for selective attachment and detachment of the proofer assembly to, and from the carriage without fasteners or tools. The quick-connect element of the proofer assembly comprises a pair of bearings, and the quick-connect element of the carriage comprises a bracket defining an open receiving area for mated receipt of the bearing elements of the proofer assembly. The bracket of the carriage has a detent for retaining the bearing elements in an operational disposition supporting the anilox roller adjacent the printing surface when the bearing elements are mated within the receiving area.

Abstract: A variable speed flexographic printer with means to match surface speeds of an ink transfer roll with the associated plate roll. A tachometer measures the rotational speed of a plate roll providing a variable DC input through means which adjust said input proportional to the diameters of the plate and ink transfer rolls providing a proportional variable DC signal to a variable speed DC motor driving the ink transfer roll. A wiper and metering blade is mounted to a block adjustably movable to and from the ink roll depending upon the diameter thereof.
