  • Patent number: 4646371
Abstract: A knockdown type of bed frame constructed predominantly from plastic components. The bed frame includes a pair of parallel side-tube members and a pair of cross-tube members. The end positions of the side-tube members and the cross-tube members are received in corresponding sockets formed in floor engaging leg members. Means are provided for retaining the side-tube members and the cross-tube members within the sockets formed in the leg members. The leg members are formed with substantially horizontal surfaces for receipt of mattress means thereon. The leg members are provided with floor engaging means. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention the floor engaging means is a caster wheel assembly incorporating a brake mechanism for applying a braking action to a caster wheel upon application of a predetermined downward force thereto.

  • Patent number: 3945064
Abstract: An improved adjustable cross frame member for use in a bed frame having side frame members and another such adjustable cross frame member. Each cross frame member comprises a pair of elongate elements including first and second perpendicular legs. One of the first legs has a plurality of longitudinally spaced position defining apertures corresponding to selectable positions of the cross frame member. The other of the first legs has a protrusion engageable with one of the apertures for retaining the elements against longitudinal movement in both directions when like legs of the elements are positioned in surface-to-surface adjacency. A locking means retains the elements against separation and includes a plurality of longitudinally spaced threaded openings in the first leg of the first element, each opening being associated with a corresponding aperture.

  • Patent number: RE31384
Abstract: Caster wheel supports for a bed frame comprising a pair of interlocking components in which male and female elements are provided on the cross and side frame members respectively for detachably securing them to one another, these elements being inclined and sloping upwardly and outwardly toward the sides of the frame, the male members serving to dispose the caster wheels mounted thereon inwardly of the side frames to provide foot clearance to prevent a person walking alongside the bed from stubbing his toes. The novel construction also provides improved reinforcement for the corners of the bed and also disposes the side frame and cross-frame bed support surfaces at a common level.
