    Abstract: A veneer composer transfers veneer pieces intermittently on a conveyor, detects the transfer of each veneer piece, cuts the veneer piece into an available width based on a detected signal, joins the veneer pieces end to end to form a composed veneer plate of long length, and cuts the composed veneer plate into a predetermined full size. The conveyor is connected to servo motors and a digital control circuit. The digital control circuit controls operation such that when the conveyor is restarted after an operation of cutting a veneer piece, a buffer acceleration time (Ta) approximately from 40 ms to 200 ms is set for the conveyer, and that when the conveyer is decelerated for setting the veneer piece to a predetermined cutting position, a buffer decelereration time (Td) approximately from 80 ms to 200 ms is set for the conveyor.

    Abstract: A method for assembling veneer sheet into a plywood comprising the steps of supplying the veneer sheets to a feed conveyer, stopping the veneer sheet so that the forward edge thereof is precisely oriented in the transverse direction perpendicular to the feed direction, detecting the position of the veneer sheet in the transverse direction and calculating deviation thereof from a reference line extending along the feed direction by a computer, and transporting the veneer sheet by a transfer unit to a position on an assembling conveyer for fabricating a stepped lamination. The assembling conveyer extends parallel to the feed conveyer and is operated intermittently. The transfer unit includes a holding member for holding the veneer sheet during the transportation and is controlled by the computer for correcting the deviation while transporting the veneer sheet.

    Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a veneer piece into equal sections includes a main conveyer for feeding the veneer piece in a direction transverse to the wood fibers thereof and a cutter disposed in the main conveyer for cutting the veneer piece along the feeding direction thereof. A straightening unit is provided at the upstream position of the cutter for controlling the orientation of the veneer piece on the main conveyor in such a manner that the fibers precisely extend along the transverse direction of the main conveyer, the unit including a plurality of retractable stoppers capable of projecting from the main conveyer to stop the veneer piece for a predetermined time. A multiple conveyer system extends from the downstream end of the main conveyer to transport the sections of the cut veneer pieces to a single feeder at different timings, the feeder conveying the sections to an apparatus for forming seam plates.

    Abstract: Boards to be dried, such as veneer are placed, one after another, on a pair of fork conveyors disposed opposite to each other. The boards are kept in the form of layers separated and carried downwardly in this fashion, so that the boards can be dried by hot air blown and circulated in the horizontal direction through a space between the two conveyors during their downward voyage. The space between the two fork conveyors is divided into a central passage portion and right and left passage portions, and the flow amount of the hot air at the right and left passage portions is controlled to be somewhat less than the hot air at the central passage portion. In this way, possible dry cracking and wave-shaped shrinkage can be effectively prevented.

    Abstract: A board drying apparatus includes a pair of fork conveyors provided in a housing and disposed vertically with spacing therebetween. Each fork conveyor has a number of extension arms fixed at to said fork conveyor to extend substantially at right angles therewith. These extension arms of both of the fork conveyors are associated with each other in such a manner that each of the extension arms of one of the fork conveyors is arranged at the same level as the associated extension arm of the other of the fork conveyors and that the extension arms on the inner side of each fork conveyor are opposed to each other and move downwardly at the same speed. A board to be dried is supplied to the uppermost horizontal extension arms at the inner sides of the fork conveyors and is carried downwardly by the extension arms during which the board is dried by heated air circulated through space between the fork conveyors in the lengthwise direction of the boards.

Two movable cutter blades are also provided at substantially right angle with each other opposite to the fixed blades in such a manner that one cutter blade coacts with one fixed blade and the other cutter blade coacts with the other fixed blade to cut the sheet material at substantially right angle with respect to the plane of the sheet material. The two movable cutter blades are made to alternately advance and retreat at a predetermined timing.
