Patent number: 8642845Abstract: The present invention relates to pepper plants resistant to powdery mildew disease as well as to infection by potyviruses, particularly potato virus Y (PVY). Specifically, the present invention relates to pepper plants comprising a viral resistance allele and a powdery mildew resistant allele in cis configuration on the same chromosome, such that the two resistance alleles are in coupling phase.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2009Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignees: Hazera Genetics Ltd, Berurim M.P., The Agricultural Research Organization—Volcanic CenterInventors: Ilan Paran, Serge Benarous, Varda Ashkenazi

Patent number: 7897840Abstract: The present invention provides transgenic plants transformed with exogenous nucleic acid encoding a Dunaliella salt-inducible or salt-responsive protein selected from the group consisting of eukaryotic initiation factor 3 (eIF3) subunit, NADPH dependent quinone reductase (QOR), aldo-keto reductase (AKR), bifunctional aspartate kinase-homoserine reductase (AK-HSD) and mitochondrial import membrane translocase subunit (TIM9), or a fragment, homolog or variant thereof. The transgenic plants have increased tolerance to salt as compared to corresponding non-transgenic plants.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2005Date of Patent: March 1, 2011Assignees: Hazera Genetics Ltd., Rahan Meristem (1998) Ltd., Yeda Research and Development Co., Ltd. at The Weizmann Institute of ScienceInventors: Ada Zamir, Irena Gokhman, Eli Khayat, Nataly Vinikur, Orna Livneh, Avi Gabai

Patent number: 7838742Abstract: The present invention provides pepper plants having edible fruit with altered vitamin content, specifically fruit comprising an elevated content of vitamin E, further comprising at least one of an elevated content of pro-vitamin A, an elevated content of vitamin C and combinations thereof. The concentration of vitamin E is at least 5 mg/100 g fresh weight, and the plants are selected to be lacking molecular markers linked to undesirable traits.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2006Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Assignees: Hazera Genetics Ltd., State of Israel, Ministry of Agriculture, Agricultural Research OrganizationInventors: Arieh Levy, Nissim Yonash, Alon Haberfeld, Serge Benarous, Joseph Kanner, Rina Granit, Ezra Menagem, Michal Barzilai

Publication number: 20090044290Abstract: The present invention provides transgenic plants transformed with exogenous nucleic acid encoding a Dunaliella plasma membrane (PM)-ATPase. The transgenic plant has increased tolerance to salt as compared to a corresponding non-transgenic plant. The present invention also provides nucleic acids encoding a chimeric PM-ATPase, which comprise a first portion encoding a plant PM-ATPase or a fragment thereof, and a second portion encoding a Dunaliella PM-ATPase or a fragment thereof. The present invention also discloses a method of producing a transgenic plant having an increased tolerance to salt as compared to a corresponding non-transgenic plant, a method of modifying a plant capacity to survive salt shock, and a method of modifying plant recovery after exposure to salt stress, by introducing into one or more cells of a plant an exogenous nucleic acid encoding a Dunaliella PM-ATPase.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2005Publication date: February 12, 2009Applicants: RAHAN MERISTEM (1998) LTD., HAZERA GENETICS LTD.Inventors: Uri Pick, Orna Livneh, Eli Khayat, Rina Walther, Avi Gabai
