Patent number: 12256850Abstract: An infant calming/sleep-aid device that includes a moving platform and a sound generator, the sound and motion adapted to calm a fussy baby, induce sleep, and maintain sleep under normal conditions. The device makes a determination as to whether sound signals represent sound coming from inside the device or outside the device. If the sound signals are coming from the inside the device, then the signals are evaluated in a specified frequency band to determine whether the sound is a baby cry. If a determination is made that there is a baby cry, then a threshold analysis is performed to quantify the cry and compare it to a threshold value. If the cry is above a specified threshold, the device moves the platform and/or generates sound.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2021Date of Patent: March 25, 2025Assignee: HB Innovations, Inc.Inventors: Harvey Neil Karp, Ted Larson, Robert Garbanati, Saryan Mikayel, Peter Fornell, Roy Kosuge, Joe Kopp

Publication number: 20240156407Abstract: This disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for detecting, monitoring, and responding to abnormalities in a subject's breathing or heartbeat. One or more sensing devices may collect breathing or heartbeat related data, which may be filtered and converted to a frequency signal. The frequency signal may be monitored for irregularity or stoppage, and a processing module may determine whether the irregularity or stoppage is caused by an actual stoppage or irregularity in breathing or heartbeat. If breathing or heartbeat is determined to have stopped, a corrective action may be performed.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2023Publication date: May 16, 2024Applicant: HB Innovations, Inc.Inventors: Peter Fornell, Christopher Laine, Borislav Ristic

Patent number: 11920771Abstract: A device for providing light and sound to a surrounding area configured to output sound and light in combination of a breathing cadence to calm a subject. The device includes a light configured to emit light at varying colors and levels of intensity synchronized with varying volumes of the sound output. The intensity of light output may increase during an inhalation period of the cadence and decrease during an exhalation period of the cadence. The cadence may be adjusted, manually or automatically, or matched to a user's breathing pattern, to provide desired light and sound combination to provide a calming effect. The sound output may be white noise, pink noise, or Brown noise, or a recording of other sounds.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2021Date of Patent: March 5, 2024Assignee: HB Innovations, Inc.Inventors: Harvey Neil Karp, Peter Fornell

Publication number: 20230270337Abstract: This disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for video detection of breathing rates in a subject, such as a sleeping baby. One or more video cameras may capture video of the subject. The video may be corrected and then a featured signal may be generated from the corrected video. A respiratory rate detector may be built to output a signal that represents breathing of the subject in the video. The signal may be corrected for any double detections. A breathing rate of the subject may be determined, and then the breathing rate of the subject may be output. In some examples, if the breathing rate is determined to be abnormal, an alarm or notification of the abnormality may be generated, or a moving platform on or in which the subject is sleeping may be moved.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2022Publication date: August 31, 2023Applicant: HB Innovations, Inc.Inventors: George H.
